Martin is located at 37°34′4″N 82°45′34″W / 37.56778, -82.75944 (37.567791, -82.759465).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.2 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 633 people, 295 households, and 166 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,357.5 people per square mile (520.0/km²). There were 339 housing units at an average density of 727.0/sq mi (278.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.31% White, 0.32% Native American, 1.11% Asian, 1.11% Pacific Islander, and 0.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.95% of the population.
There were 295 households out of which 28.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 31.2% were married couples living together, 21.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.4% were non-families. 40.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.08 and the average family size was 2.81.
