    Lewisport is a city in Hancock County, Kentucky, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 1,639 at the 2000 census. It is included in the Owensboro, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lewisport's mayor is currently Chad Gregory. Founded in 1839, Lewisport is named for an early settler, Dr. John Lewis. Lewisport's main claim to fame is that Abraham Lincoln won his first law case in the "Pell Home", which at the time was the site of the circuit court. Lewisport is located at 37°56′6″N 86°54′19″W / 37.935, -86.90528 (37.935023, -86.905270). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.1 square miles (2.7 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,639 people, 648 households, and 452 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,540.8 people per square mile (597.0/km²). There were 748 housing units at an average density of 703.2/sq mi (272.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.40% White, 1.89% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.61% Asian, 0.24% from other races, and 0.49% from two or more races.
