City DescriptionLeitchfield is a city in and the county seat of Grayson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 6,139 at the 2000 census. The city is named for Major David Leitch, who owned the land on which the city was settled.
Leitchfield is located at 37°29′1″N 86°17′38″W / 37.48361, -86.29389 (37.483690, -86.293840).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.8 square miles (22.8 km²), of which, 8.8 square miles (22.7 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.34%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 6,139 people, 2,485 households, and 1,615 families residing in the city. The population density was 700.1 people per square mile (270.3/km²). There were 2,797 housing units at an average density of 319.0/sq mi (123.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.63% White, 1.56% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.33% from other races, and 1.03% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.96% of the population.
