    City Description

    Lebanon is a city in Marion County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 5,718 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Marion County. Lebanon is located in central Kentucky, southeast of Louisville. A national cemetery is located nearby. It is located at the junction of US 68 and Kentucky Route 55. Lebanon is renowned for its Ham Days Festival which is held in the last weekend of September. Lebanon is located at 37°34′14″N 85°15′23″W / 37.57056, -85.25639 (37.570623, -85.256263). It is approximately 30 miles from its larger neigboring city of Danville and 20 miles north of nearby Campbellsville. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.4 square miles (11.4 km²), all of it land. This area is rich in Civil War History including being burned to the ground by Confederate Army General John Hunt Morgan twice. As of the census of 2000, there were 5,718 people, 2,332 households, and 1,476 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,296.6 people per square mile (500.6/km²). There were 2,555 housing units at an average density of 579.3/sq mi (223.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 77.88% White, 19.92% African American,
