City DescriptionIsland is a city in McLean County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 435 at the 2000 census. It is included in the Owensboro, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Island is located at 37°26′33″N 87°8′48″W / 37.4425, -87.14667 (37.442444, -87.146633).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.9 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 435 people, 182 households, and 123 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,237.8 people per square mile (479.9/km²). There were 210 housing units at an average density of 597.6/sq mi (231.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.31% White, 0.23% Native American, 0.46% from other races.
There were 182 households out of which 34.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.9% were married couples living together, 10.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.4% were non-families. 29.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.98.
