    Hanson is a city in Hopkins County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 625 at the 2000 census. It is named for Henry B. Hanson, a civil engineer and surveyor who plotted the town for the Henderson and Nashville Railroad (now the CSX Railroad). CSX Railroad runs through Hanson and operates a siding track there named after the town. The companies that supply power to Hanson residents are Kentucky Utilities and Kenergy. The Hanson Historic District is located in the city. Hanson is located at 37°25′4″N 87°28′50″W / 37.41778, -87.48056 (37.417794, -87.480647). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.1 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 625 people, 241 households, and 187 families residing in the city. The population density was 265.1 people per square mile (102.3/km²). There were 265 housing units at an average density of 112.4/sq mi (43.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.76% White, 0.48% Black or African American, 0.96% Asian, and 0.80% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.64% of the population.
