City DescriptionGrayson is a city in Carter County, Kentucky, United States, along the Little Sandy River. The population was 3,877 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Carter County. Since Interstate 64 and the AA Highway both converge in Grayson, the northern part of town has an abundance of truck stops and fast-food establishments. Grayson's largest employer is Smithfield Foods, formerly known as Cooks.
Grayson is located at 38°20′5″N 82°56′33″W / 38.33472, -82.9425 (38.334738, -82.942368).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.5 square miles (6.5 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,877 people, 1,415 households, and 938 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,549.1 people per square mile (598.8/km²). There were 1,538 housing units at an average density of 614.5/sq mi (237.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.32% White, 0.52% African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.18% from other races, and 0.28% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.77% of the population.
