City DescriptionCarlisle is a city in Nicholas County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,917 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Nicholas County. It is located at the junction of Kentucky Route 32 and Kentucky Route 36, about halfway between Lexington and Maysville.
Carlisle was founded in 1816 when John Kincart separated 50 acres (200,000 m) of his peach orchard into 139 lots and laid out roads. The Trans Kentucky Terminal Railroad was built along the south side of Carlisle in 1871, and as a ... Read MoreCity Contained By:Timezones:- North American Eastern Time Zone
