City Description

Camargo is a city in Montgomery County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 923 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Mount Sterling Micropolitan Statistical Area. Camargo is located at 37°59′57″N 83°53′46″W / 37.99917, -83.89611 (37.999241, -83.896203). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.1 square miles (5.5 km²), of which, 2.1 square miles (5.5 km²) of it is land and 0.47% is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 923 people, 362 households, and 275 families residing in the city. The population density was 436.6 people per square mile (168.9/km²). There were 383 housing units at an average density of 181.2/sq mi (70.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.70% White, 0.11% Asian, and 1.19% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.54% of the population. There were 362 households out of which 33.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.2% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.8% were non-families. 20.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
