City DescriptionCalifornia is a city in Campbell County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 86 at the 2000 census.
California is located at 38°55′9″N 84°15′48″W / 38.91917, -84.26333 (38.919144, -84.263381).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km²), of which, 0.2 square miles (0.6 km²) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (0.9 km²) of it (60.00%) is water.
The city’s history is somewhat unclear due to lost records in continuous floods caused by the city’s position on the Ohio River.
California had its own post office by 1852 with John H. Nelson as postmaster. The post office had daily mail delivery by water. California also had a two-story schoolhouse.
California was incorporated as a city on February 7, 1874.
The Elijah Herndon House in California is a Registered Historic Place in Kentucky.
As of the census of 2000, there were 86 people, 26 households, and 21 families residing in the city. The population density was 358.2 people per square mile (138.4/km²). There were 27 housing units at an average density of 112.5/sq mi (43.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 100.00% White.
