City Description

Breckinridge Center is a census-designated place (CDP) in Union County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,874 at the 2000 census. Breckinridge Center is located at 37°40′46″N 87°51′58″W / 37.67944, -87.86611 (37.679306, -87.866073). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.6 square miles (14.5 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,874 people, 250 households, and 182 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 335.2 people per square mile (129.4/km²). There were 260 housing units at an average density of 46.5/sq mi (18.0/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 41.36% White, 49.84% African American, 0.64% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 2.45% from other races, and 5.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.74% of the population. There were 250 households out of which 40.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.2% were married couples living together, 14.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% were non-families. 22.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
