City Description

Bloomfield is a city in Nelson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 855 at the 2000 census. Bloomfield is located at 37°54′52″N 85°19′9″W / 37.91444, -85.31917 (37.914332, -85.319232). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.3 km²), of which, 1.3 square miles (3.3 km²) of it is land and 0.78% is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 855 people, 347 households, and 231 families residing in the city. The population density was 665.2 people per square mile (255.9/km²). There were 384 housing units at an average density of 298.8/sq mi (114.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 87.49% White, 11.46% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.35% from other races, and 0.35% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.47% of the population. There were 347 households out of which 30.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.0% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.4% were non-families. 29.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or
