    City Description

Bardstown is a city in Nelson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 10,374 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Nelson County. It is named for David Bard, the man who obtained the land for the city from the governor of Virginia, and his brother William Bard, the surveyor who laid out the town. Bardstown is the second oldest city in Kentucky. It was settled in the 1780s, and received its charter in 1790. Bardstown was the first center of Catholicism west of the Appalachian Mountains. The Diocese of Bardstown was established on February 8, 1808, and served all Catholics between the Appalachians and the Mississippi River, an area now served by 44 dioceses and archdioceses in 10 states. Its cathedral still stands as the Basilica of Saint Joseph Proto-Cathedral. The seat of the diocese was transferred to Louisville in 1841. Bardstown is still the home of a Catholic high school, Bethlehem High School. The Old Talbott Tavern, built in 1779 and located just off the Courthouse Square in the center of Bardstown, is another piece of Bardstown's rich history. Several notable American icons have passed through the tavern's doors, including Abraham Lincoln and Daniel Boone.

Has anyone gone on the "Bourbon Trail" before in Kentucky?
    Question:
We are going this weekend and wanted to get some advice from anyone who may have done it. We are planning on going to Makers mark and Heaven Hill. I wanted to know if anyone has been to these two distilleries and where you may have stayed in Bardstown or the surrounding area? Thanks!

    Answer:
Yep Did it this year. Stayed at Americas Best Value Inn, Bardstown. Only $70 a night for a king, non smoking, 2 adults. Nice people at the distilleries, very layed back. Good BBQ downtown too if you get the chance. I ate BBQ from there to Charlotte where my sister lives.

Does anyone know of a good cheap auto for under $1000?
    Question:
I live in Bardstown kentucky and my car has bit the dust, its not worth what itll cost to fix it.Therefore,Im without transportation, cant afford full coverage insurance on a financed auto,so Im looking for a cheap dependable auto that I can buy straight out, that way I only have to get liability insurance.Ive looked through all local papers, but either found nothing or vehicles had been sold. Can anyone help me find what Im looking for???

    Answer:
You can get a reasonable decent car that runs and is roadworthy for $1,000 - the problem is I'm in England. There could be a problem getting it across the Atlantic. But where there is a will there is a way! You will have much more fun in a right hand drive car with a gear stick instead of that automatic wimpy drive. I think you'll also find driving on the left hand side of the road in the USA not only fun but extremely exciting.

Why is it people love side bets here in the US?
    Question:
Been to the Billiards Club of Louisville in Fern Creek, Kentucky at 5404 Bardstown Road. Can't say much for these big time players. Breezed through them. A lot of people taken side bets. Why is this and what other kinda bets are there? What is stint action?Still ain't nobody can beat me in the best of 21 racks in 8 Ball or 9. IIlinois watch out. Hey Jay I've got $28,307 cash in my pocket you and your friends can wait in line. Best of 21 racks If I did play you it wouldn't be your Day Jay :) Hey Johhny you keep the tables in Bogies warm for me :)

    Answer:
After you leave Illinois, (if you still have any cash - no checks please) the next state west is Missouri. Missouri is called "The Show Me" state. Throw your brag around all you want but you'll have to show us here in mighty Mo. By the way Julia and Rhonda said they're ready. In fact Suki Cooper wants a call when you're in town. We call this South Korean warrior Samurai Suki around here. She slices and dices her opponents into itty-bitty pieces. Write it down - Cue & Cushion, Overland, St. Louis County. Hey Johnny, I know $100 isn't much but if you want to lay off half let me know. He may not have any travelling money left after leaving Illinois and Missouri. .

Kentucky or Tennessee? (Which do you prefer most and least? Why?)?
    Question:
I prefer Tennessee because of its (mostly) friendly people, music heritage and appreciation, gorgeous mountains, warm climate (while still maintaining four distinct season,) strong economy, great schools (Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Rhodes, Belmont, etc.,) and Memphis and Nashville, which are awesome cities. Plus, it's close to Texas, the Carolinas, and the Gulf beaches. A great state! I do not prefer Kentucky. I've lived there, and it sucks! The people are rude, impolite, and unhelpful. Heck, it's hard to even get a person to smile there; talk about some sour folks. People in Louisville and Lexington are cliquish and snooty; even in churches people get hateful with you. Some of the small towns (namely Corbin, Frankfort, Lawrenceburg, and Bardstown) aren't much better. The economy sucks, and the education system isn't much better. The ONE good thing about KY is the scenery; gotta love those gorgeous rolling hills! KY and TN are rival states, that's why I asked the question.

    Answer:
I live in Louisville, Kentucky and I love it here. I agree that people in Lexington are rude, but not all people in Louisville are, it all depends on where you go. The educations system here is great, yes there are problems, but it is improving. Just because you had a bad experience don't down a place because of it. Not everyone in the state is alike.

Question about value of Bardstown Distillery Bottle?
    Question:
I'm hoping perhaps you can assist me with a recent find. It is a Bardstown Distillery bottle, brown in color, in the shape of a violin. It is 11 inches tall and it has a cork stopper with Bardstown printed on top. It also has the back label listing the bottle info and history (the label is there and complete although it has a few damaged areas). However, the bottle doesn't have the front label. In addition the bottle has part of the top seal on each side. It lists Patent # 107353 and has a couple of other number D202 and 65-41 on the bottle of the bottle. I only paid a dollar for it at a rummage sale, so I figured it was worth at least that much. Plus with it being Kentucky Derby Day and the mention of “My Old Kentucky” home on the back label it almost seemed like it was meant for me.

    Answer:
It's actually a fairly rare bottle of bourbon. I'd explain it to you, but this website does a very good job. It might be worthwhile to track down a dealer in antique bottles or liquors to see how much value it may have.

Can anyone tell me about Bardstown, KY??
    Question:
I'm looking at houses there and I've never lived in Kentucky any info would be great!...like is it a long commute to downtown Louisville? Are there any comparable places close by? Are there good restaurants? Nice people? Thanks!!

    Answer:
Bardstown is a pretty typical small town. Kinda sleepy, not much going one, but pretty. It would be a longish commute to downtown Louisville--I wouldn't want to do it, not so much because of the drive *to* Louisville, but the drive *through* the Louisville outskirts. If you like bourbon whiskey, though, it's the place to be. Is there a reason you're looking at small towns outside the city? Louisville is a great place to live, with a small-town feel, but lots of the amenities of a larger city. You might look at Shelbyville or across the river in Indiana, as well.

    Kentucky Derby Camping?
    Question:
Okay, so I know there is the Metro KOA and the way-out-there Shepardsville KOA ... but does anyone know any locals who take tent campers in their backyard? I'm specifically looking for something that isn't too far from the track or Bardstown Rd. since that's where we will heading after the main event to party down ... so basically I'm looking for Louisville metro locals who take campers for not-to-crazy amounts and won't steal our stuff :) I don't mind sleeping in my tent .... Do you have a lead?

    Answer:
I live in the Bardstown Road area. I don't know of anyone with campers in the backyard. I think the neighborhood association would get upset. There are two parking lots at Cardinal Stadium for Churchill Downs on Derby Day. The cost is $10.00. You can go south on Floyd St from Eastern Parkway to get there. People stay there late Saturday night after the Derby. Maybe you can stay the night??

Which state has the biggest rednecks? Biggest hillbillies?
    Question:
There are rednecks everywhere, I know. People give AL, MS, LA, TX, GA, FL, TN, SC, NC, and WV a bad rap. They give Arkansas a horrible rep! But, I'm not so sure any of those are as bad as Kentucky (especially east of Shelbyville and Bardstown) and southern Illinois. People still walk around barefooted in Wal-Mart and in the park on any given day in Kentucky.

    Answer:
west Virginia........there is no life guard in the gene pool!
