City DescriptionAshland is a city in Boyd County, Kentucky, United States, nestled along the banks of the Ohio River. The population was 21,981 at the 2000 census. Ashland is a part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 288,649. Ashland is the second largest city within the MSA, after Huntington. Ashland serves as an important economic and medical center for northeast Kentucky.
Ashland dates back to the migration of the Poage family from the Shenandoah Valley via the famed Cumberland Gap in 1786. They settled upon a homestead along the Ohio River and named it Poage's Landing. It remained an extended-family settlement until the mid-1800s. In 1854, the name of the city was changed to Ashland, after Henry Clay's Lexington estate, and to reflect the city's growing industrial base.
The city's early industrial growth was a result of Ohio's pig iron industry. It was not until 1854, that growth began to occur with the charter of the Kentucky Iron, Coal and Manufacturing Company by the Kentucky General Assembly. What is the recipe for the salsa at Fiesta Bravo located in Ashland, Kentucky?

I love the salsa I get from Fiest Bravo in Ashland, KY and now that I don't go back to Kentucky, I never get it. Someone please share the recipe with me so I can taste it again. I love that stuff. They sell it by the pint, and I can eat the whole thing.

Sorry I've never eaten there but pass by it a few times a week...now I'll have to go in and see if it rivals my own salsa recipe!

What to do as entertainment in ashland, kentucky???

i am going on a trip to ashland, kentucky to go meet up with some family and i need something to do for entertainment. (the enertainment can be in ashland or some place close to ashland but still in kentucky, also the entainment must allow kids at the age of 6 or 7 because of my little cousin)

The good thing about Ashland is that it is close to several good cities. It is less than an hour from Charleston, Wv and less than a couple hours from Lexington, KY. All those cities has much entertainment and shopping. Ashland has alot going on too.

i have been assigned to a reserve unit in Ashland Kentucky, does anyone know what MOS are available?

at MEPS they told me that my unit in Kentucky is a combat engineer unit, but i understand that there are different MOS's available there, does anyone know what they are or a site i can get on to find out.
I'm just inpatient and cant wait for my meeting with the unit in a week or two.

The primary MOS at the unit is going to be combat engineer and everyone else is going to be support for you guys.
My unit is an MP unit and we have ...
PAC clerks (aka unit administrators aka UA's) 3 soldiers I believe
cooks-4 or 5 soldiers
supply-2 soldiers
medics- 4 soldiers
You can definitely expect at least to have those at your unit.
sometimes reserve units will be training at the same center and upper command may be there or personnel shared at the unit level. Until recently we had 2 units at my center and a lot of brass. Luckily the brass left when the other unit deactivated.
There are sites that tell about units but not for most reserve units. I checked around and wasn't able to find anything except basic unit information (site below).

Can someone tell me what airport in kentucky will get me closest to ashland, KY?
Answer:
I am from Flatwoods, Ky about 5 minutes north of Ashland. The closet airport is Tri State Airport in Huntington, WV, just about a 25 minute drive from Ashland. If you are looking for a larger airport, the only on that I know of is Yeager Airport in Charleston, that is about an hour and 15 minutes East of Ashland. If you go to Louisville, or Cinncinatti, you are looking at about a 3 hour drive to Ashland. Huntington and Charleston are large areas, so I would suggest flying into one or the other so you can save yourself a long drive, and have the convenience of the big city.

Have you talked to her about it. Tell her how much it is hurting you and the rest of the family. Mabye you should talk to a counsellor at school. If you dad is around you should talk to him also. (even if it is long distance) Mabye it's time you stayed with him for a while so your mom can get straightened out. Let her know how much you love her and support her getting help.Good Luck.

What is Ashland, KY like?

I am a wildlife biologist and I have a job offer for a job in that area of Kentucky. If you are from Ashland, can you tell me what the town is like? Is it nice, safe, friendly,etc. A good place to raise kids?

I'm not sure what is your basis for comparison. This is a pretty small town, but definitely bigger than Mayberry. If you are coming from a large metropolitan area, then it most likely will feel like Mayberry. We did, however, just open a Starbucks... this should give you an idea of the latency issues of the region. That being said, I think it has the attributes of Anytown, USA. There is not a lot to do in town. I think crime in this area is quite low as a general rule, even if there are sporadic increase in episodes. I think most people are friendly. There are some very nice areas in town ( housing ). Not much in lines of shopping, a couple of struggling malls. Not a lot of nice restaurants but a few, but mostly fast food places. One of those fitness magazines touted this area ( with Huntington,WV as a region) in the top 3 for obesity rates and number of fast food joints. I do think this place is as good as any to raise kids. It's not so much about what the town is like, I suppose, but more about what you do with what you have. There are some very nice things about this area... lack of rush hour traffic jams, a few state parks close by, not too many problems with acts of nature to name a few. I hope you are planning to visit the area before you take your job offer. Good luck.
