City Description

Vermillion is a city in Marshall County, Kansas, United States. The population was 107 at the 2000 census. Vermillion is located at 39°43′8″N 96°15′55″W / 39.71889, -96.26528 (39.718860, -96.265214). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.6 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 107 people, 56 households, and 31 families residing in the city. The population density was 422.3 people per square mile (165.3/km²). There were 82 housing units at an average density of 323.6/sq mi (126.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.07% White and 0.93% Native American. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.61% of the population. There were 56 households out of which 14.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.8% were married couples living together, 3.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.9% were non-families. 41.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 26.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.91 and the average family size was 2.53. In the city the population was spread out with 12.1% under the age of 18,
