City DescriptionSchoenchen is a city in Ellis County, Kansas, United States. The population was 214 at the 2000 census. Schoenchen is one of several small towns in the area that was established by Volga German immigrants to Kansas. Schoenchen is primarily populated by descendants of the original German-speaking immigrants, and many local residents still speak English with a German accent.
Schoenchen is located at 38°42′48″N 99°19′51″W / 38.71333, -99.33083 (38.713244, -99.330760).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.1 square miles (0.3 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 214 people, 78 households, and 60 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,936.1 people per square mile (751.1/km²). There were 86 housing units at an average density of 778.1/sq mi (301.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.79% White, 2.34% Native American, 1.87% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.40% of the population.
