City DescriptionRansom is a city in Ness County, Kansas, United States. The population was 338 at the 2000 census.
Ransom is located at 38°38′7″N 99°55′57″W / 38.63528, -99.9325 (38.635344, -99.932434).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.9 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 338 people, 141 households, and 83 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,036.3 people per square mile (395.5/km²). There were 179 housing units at an average density of 548.8/sq mi (209.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.41% White, 0.30% from other races, and 0.30% from two or more races. 0.59% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 141 households out of which 26.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.6% were married couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.1% were non-families. 40.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 23.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.17 and the average family size was 2.88.
