    Peabody is a city in Marion County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,384 at the 2000 census. Peabody is located at 38°10′8″N 97°6′26″W / 38.16889, -97.10722 (38.168793, -97.107171). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.2 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,384 people, 531 households, and 346 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,124.7 people per square mile (434.4/km²). There were 602 housing units at an average density of 489.2/sq mi (189.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.81% White, 1.52% African American, 0.43% Native American, 0.36% from other races, and 1.88% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.82% of the population. There were 531 households out of which 30.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.9% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.7% were non-families. 31.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
