City Description

Otis is a city in Rush County, Kansas, United States. The population was 325 at the 2000 census. Otis is located at 38°32′6″N 99°3′8″W / 38.535, -99.05222 (38.534933, -99.052088). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 325 people, 148 households, and 92 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,080.3 people per square mile (418.3/km²). There were 170 housing units at an average density of 565.1/sq mi (218.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.77% White, 0.31% Native American, 0.31% Asian, and 0.62% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.85% of the population. There were 148 households out of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.0% were married couples living together, 6.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.8% were non-families. 35.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 22.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
