City DescriptionNorth Newton is a city in Harvey County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,522 at the 2000 census. It has been home to Bethel College, the oldest Mennonite college in the United States since its founding in 1887.
North Newton is located at 38°4′26″N 97°20′47″W / 38.07389, -97.34639 (38.073865, -97.346355).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.2 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,522 people, 604 households, and 335 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,775.4 people per square mile (683.3/km²). There were 632 housing units at an average density of 737.2/sq mi (283.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 93.96% White, 2.04% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.33% Pacific Islander, 1.97% from other races, and 1.18% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.83% of the population.
