City DescriptionLongton is a city in Elk County, Kansas, United States, along the Elk River. The population was 394 at the 2000 census.
Longton is located at 37°22′39″N 96°4′58″W / 37.3775, -96.08278 (37.377499, -96.082832).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.1 square miles (3.0 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 394 people, 163 households, and 98 families residing in the city. The population density was 342.6 people per square mile (132.3/km²). There were 193 housing units at an average density of 167.8/sq mi (64.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.67% White, 2.28% Native American, 0.25% Pacific Islander, 0.76% from other races, and 2.03% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.30% of the population.
There were 163 households out of which 35.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.8% were married couples living together, 10.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.3% were non-families. 38.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 24.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
