According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.5 square miles (3.9 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 603 people, 249 households, and 167 families residing in the city. The population density was 398.8 people per square mile (154.2/km²). There were 304 housing units at an average density of 201.1/sq mi (77.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.34% White, 0.17% African American, and 0.50% from two or more races.
There were 249 households out of which 26.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were married couples living together, 7.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.9% were non-families. 30.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.22 and the average family size was 2.78.
