City DescriptionLeon is a city in Butler County, Kansas, United States. The population was 645 at the 2000 census.
Leon is located at 37°41′22″N 96°46′59″W / 37.68944, -96.78306 (37.689516, -96.783109).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 645 people, 245 households, and 175 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,090.8 people per square mile (422.1/km²). There were 269 housing units at an average density of 454.9/sq mi (176.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 93.64% White, 0.62% African American, 1.71% Native American, 1.55% from other races, and 2.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.96% of the population.
There were 245 households out of which 38.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.6% were married couples living together, 10.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% were non-families. 24.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.18.
