City Description

Buffalo is a city in Wilson County, Kansas, United States. The population was 284 at the 2000 census. Buffalo is located at 37°42′34″N, 95°41′49″W (37.709569, -95.696967). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.9 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 284 people, 107 households, and 78 families residing in the city. The population density was 820.7 people per square mile (313.3/km²). There were 133 housing units at an average density of 384.3/sq mi (146.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.83% White, 0.35% African American, 1.76% Native American, and 1.06% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.70% of the population. There were 107 households out of which 35.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.8% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.1% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
