    Bison is a city in Rush County, Kansas, United States, named for the native large ungulate of the region. The population was 235 at the 2000 census. Bison is located at 38°31′15″N, 99°11′51″W (38.520718, -99.197528). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 235 people, 97 households, and 70 families residing in the city. The population density was 910.6 people per square mile (349.0/km²). There were 120 housing units at an average density of 465.0/sq mi (178.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.89% White, 3.40% African American, 1.28% Native American, and 0.43% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.43% of the population. There were 97 households out of which 29.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.9% were married couples living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.8% were non-families. 27.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
