City DescriptionAuburn is a city in Shawnee County, Kansas, United States. It is part of the Topeka, Kansas Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,121 at the 2000 census.
In July 1854, Mr. John W. Brown came to this area and found it highly suitable for a homestead. He acquired 800 acres through bartering with local Indians. He built a large brick farmhouse and later returned home to Missouri and told his family and friends about the area. Some returned with him. In 1856 Mr. Brown along with M. C. Dickey, Loring Farnsworth and Henry Fox pre-empted 320 acres (1.3 km) for the purpose of a town. They platted it and christened it Auburn. Although for many years it was known as Brownsville. It was located on the California Road and work began at once on the many buildings needed in a town of Auburns' size. Two daily stage lines brought mail and people to Auburn and business was very good.
Robert Simmerwell was a missionary to the Indians in Auburn. He originally served as a missionary among the Pottawatomie Indians in Michigan Territory, while he apprenticed to a blacksmith and attended school at night. He later came to the Baptist Shawnee Mission on Pottawatomie Creek in eastern Kansas. ... Read MoreCity Contained By:Timezones:Size:

Questions Possibly Related to Auburn, KansasProvided By Y! Answers
What does this say about Auburn? Question: Don't get me wrong I am 100% Auburn fan, but Kansas State should have won that game. Auburn didn't look that good to me. First game jitters for the newbies? or all down hill from here. They have such a tough schedule will they be able to gain composure and have a good season? Any thought on Brandon Cox?
Answer:
It appears to say they are overrated. I hope that Muschamp takes the D to the woodshed after all those missed tackles last night...you can't just 'bump' a running back and expect him to stop or fall..it's TACKLE football, not TOUCH!!!
That being said, the O-Line for KSU is HUGE! Freeman had all the time in the world to throw that ball, and he seems to be a phenomenal QB..especially for a sophomore. Their defense isn't too shabby either. I didn't expect to walk into the stadium and see a route, but I sure didn't expect it to come down to the final 2:01 minutes of the game either.
Brandon Cox needs to just not run. Simple. He's going to get killed out there, because he doesn't have the speed..I wonder how his shoulder is feeling today, as it seems he reinjured it last night. He's a good on the field leader and when he is 'on' it's a beautiful thing, but honestly, imho, Auburn hasn't had a consistant and versitile QB since Pat Sullivan.
S. Florida isn't going to lie down either, and the schedule is really tougher than it appears at first glance, so it could be a really long season for Auburn fans, but they've been there before.
That being said, a win is a win is a win...and Auburn managed to come out on top last night. Auburn tends to have one or two 'let down' games a season. If last night was one of them, then I think they will end up just fine. I know the goal was the SECCG in December, for Quentin Groves, and I do believe they have a chance to get there.

Who will win the upcoming game on 09/01/2007 between Auburn and K-State and by what point margin? Question: I think that K-State will win by 4 points in a high scoring game. It will be the "comig out" game for Kansas State that will lead them to a Big 12 North title. Of course I'm rather biased too. Lol Anyway, it should be an exciting game.
Answer:
ok your mistake is simple.. K-State will win by 4 points in a "High Scoring" game.. you're facing a top 5 defense on the road in one of the roudiest places in america.. you're QB failed his fitness test.. so high scoring is out.. and the other side has a Senior who's like 20-5 or so as a starter.. I'll say K-state keeps it close (and low scoring) until the 3rd quarter when Auburns RB's start to wear on the defense in the heat (gonna be in the mid 90's even at 9PM when the game ends)... the prediction
35-10 (being fair even) too many weapons on Offense for Auburn and that defense will probably score at least 7 points.. and that prediction is if Brandon Cox doesn't return to form and throw for 300+ yards.. if he comes out hot in that game.. give up and flip it over to some other game because it'll be dramatically worse than 35-10.. I'll also add that KSU's defense doesn't touch Cox once giving that young line some confidence
and Austin.. you are a moron.. USC? in week one? vs Idaho? can we say NO ONE CARES?.. Auburn vs K-St is the ESPN game of the week.. USC vs Idaho is the most rediculous thing that won't even be on tv.. get a clue and move on

Do you think that Kansas State could win the Big 12 North this year? Question: They played great defense against Auburn and showed flashes of greatness on offense. They would have won that game had they not hurt themselves so much, but give credit to Auburn for gutting it out and capitalizing on K-State's mistakes late in the fourth quarter. But if K-State stops hurting themselves and learns how to consisitently win games do you think that they could win the Big 12 North or even the Big 12 Conference this year? Tell me what you think. I have hope, but I am also trying to remain realistic.
Answer:
well as a hardcore Auburn fan I'll state this.. I was really impressed with Kansas St.. they were big underdogs and walked into Jordan-Hare and weren't rattled.. that's like one of the top 10 most difficult venues in the NCAA.. me and a buddy (both of us have some extensive time playing QB in HS) watched Josh Freeman and quickly decided that he'll be something really special at K-St.. I was also quite impressed with their Defense.. sure they made some dumb plays (roughing the kicker on 4th and 25 is pure boneheaded) but that'll pass with some more experience in big games.. so yea I think they can compete for the North.. and honestly I think the style of their game is just fun to watch..
ps.. smart realizing that they would need some trickery to get some points on the board and very opportunistic to stick Groves 1 on 1 with a receiver on the TD pass (purely complimentary).. but he did get his revenge lol
so a big War Eagle to K-St and hope ya'll enjoyed your visit.. to S. Florida.. next week.. we should have the #1 TB in the game ;)

Auburn Tigers. Mediocre at best? Question: I watched the Auburn Vs. Kansas St. game the other night and was not impressed at all with Auburn.
Everyone already knew that Kansas St. was not a very well established team, but would have one the game if it hadn't been for 141 yards of penalties.
Auburn was mediocre at best and I'm trying to figure out where all this over hype came from.
I've never really seen a team get bullied like they did against Kansas St. and there Quarterback will be lucky if he survives the season.
It fairly obvious that they will lose , at least, 5 to 6 games this year.
I guess my question is why are all these teams so over rated? Do these "analysts" just not know anything about what they are talking about?
Realistic answers and comments welcome and unbiased opinions please.
Just for reference, this question is not about Alabama.
No real need to comment about another team that has nothing to do with the question.

Auburn can beat USC Trojans Any day!? Question: this is true because Auburn can barely handle Kansas St. and they got beat by USF. plus in 03-04 season, they lost to USC. SEC is the best?
Answer:
Not In this Lifetime!
Sep 02, 2002 USC 24 -- Auburn 17
Aug 30, 2003 USC 23 -- Auburn 0
Then Auburn canceled the series, as they could NOT beat The USC Trojans either in LA or even in their own House (I have never heard the 87,451 seat Jordan - Hare Stadium more quiet).
However, Auburn has a Very quality program (among the best in SEC), a good coach, and exceptionally quality fans!

What college/ university should I attend? Question: I want to attend a large school, with advertising as a major, and I love sports,so strong athletics is a must. I'm considering Ole Miss, UVa, Clemson, Auburn, and Kansas State. Any other suggestions? I live in Va.by the way.
Answer:
I would suggest going to collegeboard.com and utilizing their search engine by the major/career you are interested in and matching that with schools you can pursue them at. Make sure you read about the statistics of the school and the resources they have available (24 hr libraries, the rate of graduates finding jobs, etc.). Be proactive and take initiative. The only one that is going to invest in your quest 100% is you. Advisors, professors, etc will help those who help themselves, but even then there are so many students that you have to be activly engaged in investing in your greatest asset: you.

USF @ Auburn.. alot calling for an upset..? Question: I don't see it.. Auburn's defense is too strong.. honestly Kansas State required a trick play to get in the endzone and couldn't find it without but Auburns defense matched them in TD's.. so how could USF manage to beat Auburn?.. I'm biased of course.. so give a good reason (and saying "SEC sucks" will just get you a thumbs down) lol
this just in.. lol to add to that Defense controlling the game theme..
http://www.sptimes.com/2007/09/06/Sports/Bulls_have_OL _questio.shtml
for players like Quentin Groves thats like sharks smelling blood in the water
Answer:
even if USFs explosive offense somehow puts up 31 on AUs D, AU will have no problem putting up at least 35 and walk away with the win. AU did struggle a lot against KSU but found a way late in the 4th to win. thats what seperates ok team from good teams and good teams from great teams. finding a way to win late. so that shows AUs has balls and even if its a shootout they should be able to find a way to win.

How important is recruiting to a college football program? Question: Do you think that the college who spends more money on recruiting will sign the recruits who they want to sign? I ask this because of the fact that Kansas State has spent the most money in the Big XII this year on recruiting. They are also # 5 in the nation for the most money spent on recruiting.
What does it cost?
In a recent story on college sports recruiting in the Chronicle of Higher Education, Kansas State was No. 1 among all Big 12 schools in dollars spent on department-wide recruiting at $1.32 million.
That figure also ranked No. 5 in the nation, only behind Tennessee ($2.01 million), Notre Dame ($1.76), Florida ($1.45) and Auburn ($1.37).
From the Big 12, Nebraska was seventh ($1.28), Texas was 12th ($1.16), and Oklahoma No. 14 ($1.12).
The report indicates that K-State spent $450,000 for the use of private planes used for recruiting purposes.
http://www.themercury.com/k-statesports/article.aspx ?articleId=2302196e8dcb4cce9cd7a2487fa3fcd7
Answer:
What comes first the great WINNING program or the recruiting. I don't think it matters what kind of money you have to spend if you have a losing program. Notre Dame has had it rough the last couple of years, I think its going to make it harder for them to recruit the best players. Reports are saying that Ohio state has been out recruiting Michigan, most likely because of their win streak over UofM in the last few years. Even though money is very important, I think the legacy of the program, and the rankings over the last few years matter as well. Recruiting is very important, solid players = solid programs. But don't get me started on those coaches :)

Who thinks Kansas is getting a raw deal? Question: I understand Hawaii not being up near the top of the polls, but Kansas plays in a BCS conference and has beaten everyone in their path. I realize they still have Missouri ahead of them, but if they win that game and then beat Oklahoma in the conference championship, and LSU and Oregon still get to play for the national championship, that will be a greater injustice than Auburn was dealt a few years back.
Ok...I am just playing devils advocate on this one really...but it is interesting that Kansas's strenght of schedule is ranked 84th and Southern Cal's is 100th. I really don't think if USC was undefeated that they would be ranked 3rd.
Answer:
ME! If they had a fancy name like 'Ohio State' - they would be #1 right now for sure. They have a better unbeaten record than Ohio State had, and are the only team in the country ranked in the top five on both offense and defense. If Kansas stays undefeated and beats Mizzou, they HAVE to be ranked #1 going into the Big-12 Championship game - or the rankings are a total joke!

Does anybody see the parity between these two lists with their new AP rankings? Question: 2 Georgia #3 Oklahoma
#4 Florida #6 Missouri
#7 LSU #8 Texas
#9 Auburn #12 Texas Tech
#11 Alabaman #13 Kansas
All I'm saying is that it appears to me that the SEC is not as dominant as every says. The Big 12 ranks with them neck and neck.

just because two conferences have 5 teams in the top 15 is nothing...

Who has the best chance of winning the National Championship this season Question: Out of these 7 teams, which of them has the best chance at winning the National Title?
Georgia- they may be a bit overrated but they have Knowshon Moreno and Geno Atkins, as well as Matt Stafford. The Bulldogs' schedule is aboslutley brutal and I dont see them making it through with any less than 2 losses. Can the Bulldogs make it through that menacing schedule? But then again, could any other team that doesnt play on Sunday?
USC- the entire offense is a question mark, but the defense is stacked at every position. I dont think they can muster enough firepower to win against quality teams, but theyll be there at the end of the game. Can the offense get it done, and can Mark Sanchez stay healthy?
Ohio State- I think they have the best chance at winning it, if and only if they beat USC. If that happens, then they shouldnt have trouble running the table in the Big Ten. The defense is loaded with All Americans and the offense has playmakers and upperclassmen everywhere. The Buckeyes may have the best player on the field every game with James Laurinaitis and Beanie Wells. With all this talent and pressure, will the Buckeyes be able to handle it, and most importanlty, can they win at USC?
Oklahoma- they have a good offense and defense, but the secondary is suspect and they may not have enough experience and leadership to beat Texas, Texas Tech, Kansas, and probable Big 12 North Champion Missouri. Is Oklahoma being overlooked, or are they just not as good as OSU, UGA, and USC?
Florida- a loaded offense returns Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin as well as Chris Rainey and Louis Murphy. The defense though, which ranked last in the SEC in pass defense, is what will hold them back. The best player on that defense, Derrick Harvey, left early for the NFL. Losses against Georgia, LSU, Auburn and Michigan, the best teams they played all year, cant happen again, but at least we know the Gators can beat at least one teamt this year, Tennessee. Can the Gators win the big games against contenders and can they overcome the spotty defense?
Missouri- Chase Daniel and Jeremy Maclin will tear it up as usual, but the defense is what everyone forgets about. They are a veteran unit that has tasted the Big 12 Championship game. I think the Tigers could be good, the offense will be top 5, but do they have enough playmakers everywhere else to match up with the 5 teams above them?
LSU- I actually think LSU could repeat as National Champions if Andrew Hatch can manage the game well and not turn the ball over. An unbelieveable offensive line with All Americans Herman Johnson and Ciron Black will do alot ot help Hatch get used to SEC football, but the Receivers and Backs are good, not great. That defense is great too, with a dominant line returning Tyson Jackson and Al Woods, two All Americans. Darry Beckwith at LB is strong too. LSU is good, but will they be able to overcome their lack of an experienced QB?
You dont have to read all that if you dont want to:
Heres the teams:
Georgia
USC
Ohio State
Oklahoma
Florida
Missouri
LSU
Answer:
LSU will have 3 QB's to choose from this year actually, the 2 that went through spring training and an incoming freshman. I honestly think that gives them a better shot at the national championship than they had with Ryan Periloux as the obvious starter. Ohio State could very well be back in the big game, even though if they probably need to be undefeated to do it. After losing 2 in a row, they won't get the votes from the press or the coaches(both part of the BCS scoring) to jump ahead of another team with the same or better record, especially not an SEC team.
Honestly, I believe that Georgia, Florida, LSU, or Auburn can all win the SEC with a little bit of luck on their side this year, and could very easily see the conference beating itself out of National Championship contention. Making it through that conference unbeaten would be an amazing feat...as you said....for anyone that doesn't play on sundays.
my pick(even though I think the best teams are in the SEC)
BCS National Championship game USC vs Oklahoma

how much will the weather affect early season games? Question: like Kansas St.. they've been in the upper 80's/lower 90's.. not much humidity.. next weekend.. on the plains of Auburn. average temp last 2 weeks.. 104 with a heat index around 115.. it's gonna be hot in that stadium.. this is just curious all around with teams coming south to play opening week and 2nd week (like Virginia Tech in week 2 @ Baton Rouge where it'll be HOT and sticky)
Answer:
Those bunch of yankees from Kansas St. are going to swelter in Jordan-Hare. I'm sure they will put up a fight in the 1st part of the game but the humidity will take its toll. AUBURN players are used to it.
The same thing will happen to Virginia Tech.

There will be at least 1-2 of those Top 15 that everyone's got that will end up out of the top 25 in the first month. We'll know a lot more after those first week upsets.
