    Guthrie Center is a city in Guthrie County, Iowa, United States, along the South Raccoon River. The population was 1,668 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Guthrie County. Guthrie Center is part of the Des Moines–West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. Guthrie Center is located at 41°40′47″N 94°30′3″W / 41.67972°N 94.50083°W / 41.67972; -94.50083 (41.679618, -94.500812). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.5 square miles (6.4 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,668 people, 726 households, and 453 families residing in the city. The population density was 676.0 people per square mile (260.7/km²). There were 830 housing units at an average density of 336.4/sq mi (129.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.32% White, 0.06% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 1.02% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.32% of the population. There were 726 households out of which 27.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.9% were married couples living together, 9.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.6%
