Grand Junction is located at 42°1′52″N 94°14′7″W / 42.03111, -94.23528 (42.031161, -94.235377).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 square miles (2.5 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 964 people, 369 households, and 257 families residing in the city. The population density was 999.1 people per square mile (387.7/km²). There were 407 housing units at an average density of 421.8/sq mi (163.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.24% White, 0.10% African American, 0.10% Asian, 1.04% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.93% of the population.
There were 369 households out of which 35.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.8% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.1% were non-families. 27.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
