    Bernard is a city in Dubuque County, Iowa, United States. It is part of the 'Dubuque, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area'. The population was 97 at the 2000 census. Bernard is located at 42°18′49″N 90°49′52″W / 42.31361°N 90.83111°W / 42.31361; -90.83111 (42.313622, -90.831073). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 97 people, 46 households, and 25 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,053.5 people per square mile (416.1/km²). There were 48 housing units at an average density of 521.3/sq mi (205.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 100.00% White. There were 46 households out of which 23.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.8% were married couples living together, 6.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.5% were non-families. 37.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.11 and the average family size was 2.85. In the city the population was spread out with 19.6% under the age of 18, 7.2%
