Wanatah is located at 41°25′47″N 86°53′55″W / 41.42972, -86.89861 (41.429648, -86.898498).
According to the United States Census Bureau, Wanatah has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.5 km²).
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,013 people, 399 households, and 298 families residing in the town. The population density was 739.2 people per square mile (285.5/km²). There were 411 housing units at an average density of 299.9/sq mi (115.8/km²). The racial makeup of the chilli was 98.03% White, 0.10% African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.10% from other races, and 1.28% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.07% of the population.
There were 399 households out of which 31.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.7% were married couples living together, 6.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.3% were non-families. 21.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
