Answer:
Don't remember everything, but here goes:
Undergrad:
3.6 gpa, 26 ACT (not sure what that translates to for SAT), one sport, other pretty irrelevant things. Got into the only 3 schools I applied to: Michigan State, CMU, WMU.
Grad:
3.7 gpa, no GRE required, 3 leadership positions, 4 significant volunteer positions, two BAs (Accounting and Spanish) in 4 years. Got into the only school I applied to (and the only one I'd have wanted to go): University of Michigan.
Next step: Apply to U of M, U-Chicago, U-Washington, UC-Berkeley for Ph.D., apply to U of M and Yale for post-grad fellowships.

How appropriate is the movie Spaceballs by Mel Brooks for my 11 year old? Question: She loves all things geek, has seen MIB, MIBII, all of LoTR (but she read the books first), the Indiana Jones Trilogy, etc.. BUT these have less adult material than they could. AND this movie is rated PG under the old rating system that still let a fair bit of gore and adult content by under that rating. My husband and I don't remember the movie well at all and there's an event later at which this parody plays (in other words, no time to rent and watch it first or we would).
What are your thoughts? If you think it's not a good choice, give specific examples of content that may not be appropriate rather than your personal value judgments. Thanks.
Ok, as per sex references, which I know this movie has, are they the sort that goes over the head of a 6th grader?
Darn that old PG rating system. Airplane! was PG and I still can't believe kids got to watch it. Heck, there was a full-screen pair of breasts in it.
Answer:
If she's a mature 11, I'd say give it a shot but be prepared for questions, as some of the jokes may not go over her head.
It will definitely be easier to explain the more risque & suggestive dialoge than if you were going to let her watch Blazing Saddles!!!
EDIT:
Enough of the really questionable ones will go over her head, as they are double entendres: When Megamaid is removing the air form the planet & they are chanting "suck, suck, suck!"
That may blow right by her.

Need advise, i'm thinking about studying in the USA next winter semester? Question: I'm at a university in the UK (studying psychology) and i was offered an oppertunity to study in the USA for one semester (the winter one) next year. Also during the semester is there a week of at universities for thanksgiving because i want to go back to the UK briefly to visit my boyfriend.
What would be the benefits of studying abroad for 3/4 months? I've been given a choice of either Oregon State University, Louisiana, Stony Brook (New York), University of Rochester, Purdue (Indiana) or Pennsylvania.... I have looked on the sites and have nooooooo idea which one to choose, at all! I'm mainly interested in the student life, so any experiences or websites for that would be usefull!
I was thinking about Stony Brook maybe, anyone know what's it like there? The websites not very useful?
O yea sorry, got a bit confused cos we don't have semesters over here, but i meant the fall semester!!
Answer:
I would go to New York. They have a wider range of cultural differences to explore. Most of the other places you have mentioned might be safer but New York is where the action and culture is. It also has great public transportation and many of the other places may not have public transportation.
You can be safe in New York, you just can't be naive. Most of the people there are pretty nice, but there are a few who will take advantage of you if you let them. ( I guess that can happen anywhere but the larger the population in an area, the more likely it is to happen)

Admission Chances English Lit. PhD Programs? Question: Hi!
I’d like to know what my chances are of getting into top PhD programs in English Literature?
I’m an international student and recently earned my MA in English Literature from Murray State University in one year (GPA: 3.8, two unfortunate B’s in my first semester).
My field of interest is Modern and Contemporary Drama.
I did my undergraduate studies in Germany (American studies and political science), but didn’t earn an undergraduate degree (different system).
Right now I’m doing an internship with a literary magazine, and I’m also trying to get a teaching position for January.
Since German is my native language, I have already fulfilled the language requirement for most programs.
In addition, I will present one of my papers at a conference this October.
My GRE scores are (just taken last week):
Verbal: 640
Quantitative: 570
Analytical: ?
The Programs I’m interested in (I know, too many):
Yale
Cornell
Columbia
Michigan, Ann Arbor
Minnesota, Twin Cities
NYU
Indiana, Bloomington
U of Pittsburgh
Ohio State
Vanderbilt
Purdue
Rochester
SUNY Stony Brook
UConn
UT Knoxville
Loyola Chicago
Texas Tech
Ole Miss
Thanks a lot!
Answer:
You should be able to get into one of these, though maybe not the top schools ("Ivy League" as they are called in the US). What will be of great important however is for you a) to get good letters of recommendation from professors familiar with your work. and b) A good, well-written statement by you concerning why you wish admission, what your goals are etc. For "a", if you can get a letter to a university from a professor who is him or herself a graduate of that university's program that really helps and b) if possible get one of your professors to help you with this.
Good luck.

How's this NBA Draft Order? Question: 1)Chicago- Derrick Rose
2)Miami- Michael Beasley
3)Minnesota- OJ Mayo
4)Seattle- Jarryd Bayless
5)Memphis- Eric Gordon
6)New York- Kevin Love
7)Los Angeles Clippers- Brook Lopez

11)Indiana- D.J. Augustin
12)Sacramento- Anthony Randolph
13)Portland- Alexis Ajinca
14)Golden State- DeAndre Jordan
Answer:
uhh I think Golden State is not going to take DeAndre Jordan just because his stock is free falling to the 20's. He's not offensive minded enough to go high to Golden State. I think Memphis will take Love and Joe Alexander will fall into Milwaukee (he speaks Mandarin along with Yi)
Other than that, it looks great.

27.Detroit Pistons pick-Josh Shipp
28.New Orleans Hornets pick-Taj Gibson
29.Boston Celtics pick-Joey Dorsey C
30.Memphis Grizzlies pick-Kyle Weaver
Answer:
A few pointers that should be noted.
* Kevin Love should be in the 1st round and maybe, a potential top 10 pick.
* Derrick Rose or Michael Beasley could be a top pick depending the team's obvious need. Miami needs a forward to complement Wade now that Shaq is declining so they would look to draft Beasley over Rose.
* Tylan Hansbrough should be higher, maybe a top 15 pick.
* OJ Mayo should go higher and I can totally see Seattle taking him if they had the third pick to complement Durant.
Otherwise, great mock draft predictions!

Answer:
I don't see the Bulls selecting another forward. Tyrus Thomas and Joakim Noah are still sitting in the windy city. Derrick Rose will be the no. 1 pick. Simply for the fact that Kirk Hinrich isn't producing as they would like, and they still want to keep Ben Gordon fresh, and as an upstart from the bench.
