  The Bristol Town Council would like to give the police department more room and update the town hall, if a way can be found to fund it.

  "The main issue, before anything can be built, is how to pay for it," said Town Attorney Glenn Duncan.

  Duncan told the council the $900,000 estimated cost of the project could be funded through a 15-to-20-year municipal lease buy-back program.

  "The goal is to not use tax dollars for it," said Swallow.

City Description

Bristol is a town in Washington Township, Elkhart County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,382 at the 2000 census. Bristol is located at 41°43′16″N 85°49′6″W / 41.72111, -85.81833 (41.721050, -85.818195). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.5 square miles (6.5 km²), of which, 2.4 square miles (6.2 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km²) of it (4.40%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,382 people, 539 households, and 368 families residing in the town. The population density was 579.8 people per square mile (224.2/km²). There were 559 housing units at an average density of 234.5/sq mi (90.7/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 90.09% White, 1.16% African American, 0.36% Native American, 1.23% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 4.27% from other races, and 2.82% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.67% of the population. There were 539 households out of which 34.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.9% were married couples living together, 9.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% were non-families. 23.9% of all households were made up of
