I want to get a pet rat but I do not know where to get one? Question: I live in bourbon indiana and that is a very small town
Answer:
There are breeders and rescues in Indiana. Check petfinder, petharbor and your local animal shelters for starters.
You don't want a rat from a big box pet store as they are not socialized and will require more of your time and patience to socialize them. You want more than one rat unless you have at least 4 hours a day to devote to this lone rat. You want a large cage as well as to be able to provide it time out of it's cage.
