What is the best way to catch bass on patoka lake in indiana on march 15,2008 ?
Answer:
You must have a tourney there --
FIND WARM WATER -- even if it is 3 degs higher than the average -- that is where the fish will be.
Well you are gonna want to fish the backs of creeks such as Painter Creek , lick creek and allen creek. Most of the bass will be here or at secondary points (the second point in from the main lake). I would concentrate on the creeks and not main lake because the warmest water will be in the creeks.
REMEMBER NORTH ENDS OF THE LAKE OR POND ALWAYS WARM FASTER THAN OTHER AREAS. as the sun rises it projects more heat onto the north end of the lake at this time of year.
I would look for the warm water entering the main reservoir -- March 15 the water will be around 43-48 degrees. If it is warmer that is a bonus. Start by fishing rock ledges and areas near the backs of the creek throwing a suspending jerk bait. If it is cloudy use a clown pattern if it is sunny use a black back silver side orange belly. The way to use them is this-- twitch, twitch then pause for at least 3 seconds. the longer you can pause the better; usually a fish will come up to the bait and look at it and when you twitch it again he will pound it. March is agreat time to catch a lunker because the females are getting ready for the spawn. If the water temp is over 50 start looking for crawdads. A jig is good bite at patoka as well -- FISH SLOW AND try to get your bait as close to structure as possible.
Look for mudlines back in the creeks or in narrow areas near the marina or jackson state recreation area. Mudlines provide food for smaller fish and insects which then draw in larger predators. -- try twitching that suspending jerkbait near these mudlines.
When I go to a new lake I hire a guide and the link is posted below.
A great color to use is RED at patoka try throwing lipless cranks along the steep banks near the bridge ripping it through old weeds and bouncing it off the rip rap there.
I hope this helps and I look forward to seeing you at a few tourneys.

Does anyone have any tips or spots to share for a bass tourney I have on 05Apr08 on Lake Monroe in Indiana? Question: I know this lake pretty well. In most other tourneys around this time I have faired well. So for this tourney I am planning on throwing suspending jerkbaits around primary points and rocks. I will throw shad raps and other crankbaits near channels if the water is above 55 degs. I plan on the water being around 48-52 degs. Even with my past history on this lake at this time it never hurts to have another spot or two that could produce a lunker.....
Please dont give me stupid answers like in the water or near the dam -- i would like specifics -- If you dont want people to know your spots you can email me -- I will wont broadcast them -- but I have spots for you if you were having a tourney on a later date that I would be happy to share.
Answer:
Trees, grass, and points. Find these up there and you should come up with a pretty good tournament and bag of fish.
