When was the last time you heard the Green Duck mentioned? The Green Duck was a very coveted traveling trophy among the schools here in Mason County. It seems that the last teams to win this trophy just happened to be Balyki HS and it has been in storage since the school closed. It is now properly displayed with some other impressive trophies at Bath's new Community Center. Drop by and take a look.

Daughter works for Bath & Body Works in Illinois, 6-7 hours per day. No breaks!! Isn't this illegal??
    Question:
My question is regarding employment law in Illinois. I thought employees were supposed to be given at LEAST 15 minutes break time if they work 6-7 hours straight. My daughter works for Bath and Body Works but has never been allowed even a lunch break. I hope someone can help me with this. Thank you!!

    Answer:
This is not illegal. As stated earlier, per 820 ILCS (Illinois Compiled Statutes) 140/3 (IL law), your daughter is only entitled to a 20 minute meal break if she works for 7.5 continuous hours. This is probably why she is only scheduled for a 7 hour shift, so they don't have to give her a break. Federal law does not mandate break periods, and all the state laws are different. Other posters are uninformed or are not basing their statements on the applicable state law.

rental prices for 3 bdrm 1 bath houses in zion illinois?
    Question:
Brick ranch with 2 car garage and fenced yard

    Answer:
I used www.rent.com and found 3-bedroom rentals in the Zion area for anywhere from $750 to $1575. Since the house's exact location (neighborhood) and other amenities (if any) would have a significant effect on the rental value I would suggest going to a rental property management company (usually a part of the larger real estate firms) and ask them for market values in that area. A rule of thumb I was once taught is that you could expect to be able to rent a house for approximately the entire mortgage payment for the house (principal, interest, taxes, insurance), assuming a recent purchase or re-finance at 80% to 90% of appraised value financed, but again other variables would have an effect on the rental value - sometimes a large effect.

    Question:
I'm filling out applications for jobs at places like Pier One and Bed Bath and Beyond. I'm in Illinois Rockford area. How much pay should I ask for?

I am looking for an apartment inRockford Illinois...?
    Question:
I am looking for an apartment in the Rockford Illinois area that will allow a larger sized dog...he is a lab/blood hound mix, he is nutered, obediance trained, house broken, and freindly to everyone and everything, and we also have a cat. We just moved from Buffalo NY to Rockford and we are currently staying with family here but we need a place like 5 minutes ago if you know what I mean...lol. My husband and my two boys, and our pets would need a two bedroom, 1 bath with A/C. Our budget allows us to spend between 575 and 600 per month. We need help so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Our pets are part of our family so they have to go with us!! I am willing to live in the general Rockford area, and surrounding area, like roscoe, rockton, winnebago, loves park, you know anything not too far from the east side of Rockford where my job is.

    Answer:
Don't move to Rockford. It is so boring, trust me.

What is a broken drain tile going to cost me?
    Question:
Every 6 to 8 weeks my bath tub backs up and my toilet stops flushing. The plumber who was out last time it happened said that it was probably a shifted drain tile. He said it probably wasn't broken and it was not a root problem because no evidence of either was found during the rodding. Now it is starting to happen again and I am considering the option he proposed to put a camera down and check for tile problems in the system and replace a shifted tile if necessary. Does anyone know how much this will cost in the Northeastern Illinois area, more specifically Oak Lawn, IL?

    Answer:
Call and get estimates. Depends on how deep they will have to dig. If they ruled out roots. Sometimes things underground shifts, even though there's no break. Watch letting them use the camera. If you have loads of money, go ahead. Remember the cost of the backhoe!! Sounds like you have an old home when you mentioned tile problems. Plastic is what's been used for years. If you know what direction approximately your sewer line runs, you may be able to save some money by starting the dig yourself. If you have gas, call the gas co before you do anything!! Still not sure of cost. Don't get ripped off. We just moved out of an older home. It turned out to be the biggest money pit!!! Good luck to you!!

Would it be irrational to think that I could have a house built for less than 80k?
    Question:
1 bed, 1 bath, kitchen, dining room, living room at about 1080 sq. foot? Nothing fancy, just the necessities. It would be more or less a home to stay at when weather conditions got bad and I couldn't make it to my regular home. If this is irrational, around what size home COULD you build for less than 80k? I'm in central illinois and already have a lot.

    Answer:
Having the lot is a big part of the $$ equation--but what you will also need to know is what your lot is zoned for. Will the county, city or burrough permit a home of that square footage? It is very possible to build a place with that small of a footprint for the kind of money you are talking about but you may very well have to put in a lot of sweat equity yourself. Here is a website for prefab and modular homes in Illinois in case that is a permissible building type for your lot. http://illinois.modularhomes.info/

How do you get rid of a bad real estate agent?
    Question:
Sister's home been on market for 3 months (Illinois). Not one time has agent personally shown house. I understand IL market is depressed but they have a 4 bdrm, 1 bath, 1600 sq ft. home (cute starter home) now lowered to $77,500 and still no sale. Your thoughts? What's their options?

    Answer:
If you think the agent is trying and is keeping in contact with your sister, then hang in there. There's a lot of properties out there and not enough buyers to go around. It can be really frustrating for sellers right now. However, if the agent doesn't call and seems like they don't care, have her tell the agent that she's really unhappy and try to negotiate with the agent to just cancel the listing without recourse.

How much are utilities (approx.) per month for a townhome?
    Question:
It is in Illinois; 2 bedroom, 3 bathroom (it's two "master suites" and a 1/2 bath), there is a "bonus" room on the bottom level, but that room is small and just leads off the garage. We would need internet as well. Any help would be appreciated; thank you!

    Answer:
Of course it all depends on how much you use. I use next to nothing to so my bills are around $65 per month total. I have a friend that uses gas/electricity far more often and his is closer to $120 per month

Buying Land and have questions about septic, well, and electric service?
    Question:
I am looking into buying about 5 acres of land in central Illinois and am wondering approximately how much I can expect to pay for a septic system, well, and electrical hook up. The house will be a 2 Story, 4 BDRM, 2 1/2 Bath.... Thanks for any input you can give...

    Answer:
You need to talk to your building dept and local power providers. Keep in mind all land is not suitable for septic systems. You should have a "perk test" done before you even buy the property to see if a septic field will work. If you dont pass the perk test you will have to put in what they call an engineered septic field which will cost a fortune.

I have a small home on approx 2/3 acre. How do I get quotes for tear down&/or auctioneer for house materials?
    Question:
I'm not sure if I should tear down the house and then sell the property. I have put money into the interior thinking I would stay. I bought new appliances (stove, dishwasher, washer & dryer), also a new furnace, hot water heater, light fixtures, new countertops in kitchen, bathroom vanity, air conditioner. Home has pella windows, 14 glass sliding doors, beamed ceiling, paneling, hardwood floors, 2 fireplaces, 3/4 brick exterior. Finished basement with bar. It's only a 2 BR with 1 1/2 baths. It's located in the Wood Dale area of Illinois near O'hare, on a dead end street, near expressways. Homes in the area are being torn down or added on to making much of the area larger newer homes. I have put up a For Sale sign just to get an idea of what people would pay. I need as much as I can get out of the property to live on. I need as much feed in as possible to do this. The house was built in 1954.

    Answer:
DO NOT tear the house down if you want to sell the property, you won't get much for all that stuff,, just look at all the questions here wanting everything for free or REAL cheap! The whole package will sell for a lot more, and few people will pay a lot just for 2/3 acre!!!

What is the pay scale for a home health care worker?
    Question:
A friend wants to hire me to care for (i.e., changing his diaper, bathing, and feeding him) her aged father but I don't know how much to charge. I will be working in her home for six hours and I live in Illinois. I don't work for a private agency (but I have experience as a health aide). This time I will be working for myself. Is there a website that I can go to to figure out how much to charge her?

    Answer:
For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'personal and home care aides' or such. Please do ask for something in writing making it official as to the hourly (or weekly) rate that you agree upon regardless of friendship :)

    Illinois tenant rights and laws?
    Question:
I am having some problems with the property management business that I rent from. I do live above a dog grooming business, but now my cat has fleas and I have given her baths and treatments and a flea collar, but I am still finding them on her and in the carpet and I even found one crawling on my clean dishes. I contacted them 1 1/2 weeks ago and they still haven't heard anything from the landlord. Also, we tried to turn on our heat on Wednesday, and it didn't work. I called them first thing Thursday morning and still haven't heard anything back. I believe the thermostat is just broken. Now, along with all of this, I am 6 months pregnant. Does anyone know of somewhere I can call to have my landlord take care of these problems? Or a website with information on my rights and/or laws as a renter.

    Answer:
In writing ...... communicate only in writing....that starts the legal clock.... State law dictates how much time a landlord has to address repairs....heating issues usually give the landlord a VERY short window of time to fix..... the flea issue...wow.. the landlord can easily say your cat brought them in....so you are probably on your own.....hire an extermination company that has some knowledge about flea infestation vs. a regular bug infestation... just google your state and landlord/tenant laws.

Why do brits always assume we know they are talking about British Towns?
    Question:
They never say Birmingham England, Bath England orNempnett Thrubwell England or Ubley England or Shepton Mallett England, How do are we supposed to know Ubley is not Ubley Illinois or Shepton Mallett Nebraska. Is it annother sign of British Arrogance.

    Answer:
Maybe there is a little arrogance involved but similarly, because most towns with the same name in other countries (settled in the main by the British) tend to be namesakes of their British counterparts, there is an assumption that they need not have to qualify the region. That the namesakes in fact are not the original towns and therefore they should stipulate where the town in located.

It would be a super-steal if it had a 2nd bathroom. The value of the 4 bedrooms is weakened by the 1 bath.

3 houses with no water for 23 days who can we contact?
    Question:
That's right 3 houses side by side for 23 days with no water as of 3-8-07. Could you survive this long without something so taken for granted? Better us than you right? It's sad that nobody cares. If I were a single 86 year old man with no relatives I would have died by now. Nobody would find my corpse until the IRS came knocking. IMAGINE NO LAUNDRY, NO SHOWERS, NO BATHS, NO WATER FOR PETS, NO CLEAN DISHES. We've been reduced to shoveling 55 gallon trashcans' full of snow into our bathtub, to melt into water and dump into the back of the toilet just to be able to flush. We've tried contacting 3 plumbers(who all say it is NOT our individual homes), Local Water Dept (Manhard Co.), the Illinois Commerce Commission, Attornery General of Illinois, ABC, NBC, CBS, WGN, Senator Barack Obama, Senator Dan Durbin. Has anyone ever had this happen and who can we contact for help before we die?

    Answer:
Yes, I think a 1B/1B would be easier to sell than a studio. It is all about pricing though.
