Did you notice the earthquake early this morning centered in Illinois, but felt as far away as Atlanta? Question: I live in the Atlanta area in North Georgia, nearly 400 miles from the epicenter, and it woke me up from a sound sleep. The windows were rattling and my bed was shaking. I knew at once that it must be an earthquake. We had a 3.5 quake some years ago centered in Cobb County.
Answer:
Oh Lordy,did I!
I'm used to my building shuddering when big trucks go past, but the quake made my bed jump.
My sleepy head told me my housemate had come in and lifted my bed to mess with me [good-naturedly,of course.]
Then,I thought I had a ghostie under my bed!
At work, someone mentioned the quake and I was all "OHHhhHHhhh......"
All in beautiful Cincinnati,Ohio.

My company is relocating from Illinois to Georgia will I have any recourse if they don't ask me to relocate? Question: I have been with the same company for 28 years and in good standings. As the matter of fact my local managemers are given me recommendation letters. My job as for fact not been eliminated but replaced by a local person in Atlanta. My company bought out another company 2 years ago and they are finally closing down mine and other two's one in Indiana and one in Kansas city. However, the corporate office in New Jersey has give all the employees in Indiana a choice to relocate only 4 took the transfer but they have yet not asked any of us in Illinois. Can I refuse my severance and if any, can I have any legal recourse against the company and under what? We will be closing sometime in December. Also at this time they are still looking for help in Atlanta.
Answer:
28 years is a long time to be with a company and I know this is going to hurt. However, I would take the severance and look elsewhere. Unfortunately, employees have very little ability to do anything in these situations. Start looking for other work and put this behind you. You are lucky to have had a job for that long, the usually now is about 7 years with one company.

I just moved to Arlington Heights Illinois from Akron Ohio. How do I find a good person to cut my gray hair.? Question: I'm 55, full head of hair, partially gray and fussy. I never know how things will work out until after it is too late. Is there a way to tell a good stylist from a less experienced one? My daughter usually cuts my hair but she moved to Atlanta to work at Van Michael an Aveda Solon in Buckhead Ga.
Answer:
if you see someone whose hair you like just go up to them and say... "I really like your hair where did you go get it done?" usually the person will be so flattered that they will tell you where they went and you can go check it out....maybe just go to the salon and get a shampoo set and see if you like how they style your hair before you get it cut its ok your allowed to do that...if you dont like them you never have to go back again this is a fail safe method to finding a good stylist

Driving a borrowed car in Atlanta, GA? Question: I have a drivers license from Atlanta, GA. I will borrow my uncle's car from Illinois and will be driving the car for about 6 months in Georgia. Do I have to register the car?
What are the procedures involved? Please let me know whatever details you can.
thanks
amit
Answer:
Since you're driving the car for an extended period the only thing that you'll need to do is to be added to your uncle's insurance policy as the main driver of the car. He can remove you when you're done using the car. The car can remain in his name and ownership. You may, want to get a notarized letter from him to stick in the glove box indicating you're using the car with his permission, just in case.

Why is Jeep Allowed to Use Cherokee While the U of Illinois Can't Have Chief Illiniwek? Question: Is there some rationale for allowing a giant automaker to slap the name CHEROKEE on its vehicles when at the same time the University of Illinois is forced to abandon it's beloved Chief Illiniwek mascot? Why is it OK for Cleveland to have the Indians and Atlanta b\have the Braves, but Chief Illiniwek is considered to be a racist symbol? The whole world is going NUTS!
Answer:
Well, the college circuit is trying to be completely, absolutely and entirely inclusive and the lawyers said something about liability issues and...
you get the idea. Jeep obviously isn't run by the college board, so they can do as they please. FSU is probably going to get to keep the Seminole name, especially because they went to the Seminole Nation at the outset and got their blessing for it first.
What gets me is we hear about this 'outrage' while names like 'trailblazers', 'cavaliers', 'paladins', 'orangemen' et alia don't act as stereotypes on white people but actually pertpetuate their 'superiority'. People, it is one or the other, not both. I say we all take a chill pill and follow the Canadiens' lead- the ones with a hockey team named (no bull) the 'Canucks'. Talk about a slur that has no power.

Can I send a picture message to another state? Question: Ok so I have been trying to send a picture to someone and I cant. I live in Illinois and she lives in atlanta, georgia .....
Can I send to another state?
Answer:
State has nothing to do with it. The person your sending it to may not have a contract to accept pictures. Or if it is a minor on a parents / family plan they may have blocked the ability to send/ receive pictures.
Or possibly your parents if your a minor have blocked pictures from being sent/received.

What are those red blinking lights on the horizon in Illinois? Question: Whenever I make the drive from Atlanta to Minneapolis I pass thru Illinois at night. I always see hundreds if not thousands of red blinking lights all across the horizon. What are these and what are they for? and dont say cell phone towers cause they are not freakin cell phone towers!
im pretty sure its not an airport because this goes on for miles and miles and miles and miles... and i work for northwest airlines and as far as i know there isnt an airport that goes all along the interstate. i kinda thought that at first myself... it hasnt been completely ruled out but i just doubt it.
Answer:
I have never been to Illinois, but my home country is full of red blinking lights at night, too. They are arranged in groups, and all the lights belonging to such a group are blinking in the same rhythm. The lights are mounted on the tops of tall wind turbines. Maybe they also have a special wind energy programme in the state of Illinois?

The NCAA has banned a lot of Indian mascots and symbols. Why are professional teams exempt? Question: Chief Illiniwek is no longer a symbol at the University of Illinois. The Florida Seminoles have the expressed permission of the Seminole Indians, as the Redmen of Northeatern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma have the Cherokee's blessings.
But professional teams are still allowed. The Chief Wahoo symbol of the Cleveland Indians could not be more cartoonish, and Redskin is the N word for most Indians and yet the team representing the national capitol is called that. The Atlanta Braves still use Hollywood music and the tomahawk chop.
Do Indians not care? Does anyone at all care? Is this a non-issue? Is it 'PC crap', as my friend calls it? What do you think?
Well, yeah, I KNOW the NCAA doesn't govern pro teams. What I'm asking is if it isn't allowed at the college level, why are pro teams not protested against?
Orchid -- You obviously don't know much about it. "Native Americans" is a PC phrase most INIDIANS hate! They don't like to be called Americans. American Indian is all right because America there is a geographic adjective. So. What was your point, anyway?
Dave -- yer right!! Since it's a liberal thing, wah, we ort to make a team called the Little Black Sambos, just on accounta because liberals suck. Yer right. The Minnesota Jews, the South Carolina Sluts, heck, it wuz great when we wuz in charge, right bruthah?
Answer:
I don't know where you have been, but the Indians (Native
Americans, that is ... I'm not sure how natives of India feel about it) have protested the use of these nicknames.
I don't have an issue with it. Then, again, I'm not a Native American.

is their any way I can watch Atlanta local TV on my laptop from Chicago? Question: I want to see the Falcons play in football season and I want to see the Hawks during basketball season, but I am in college in Illinois. I cant afford NBA League Pass or NFL Sunday Ticket
Answer:
do you have a TV/subscription to tv back in atlanta? if you do you could get a pci express card for cable and use http://www.orb.com/ .... or you could get slingbox http://www.slingmedia.com/
Otherwise I don't know of a way for you to get those games live. The cheapest way would be a cable subscription back in atlanta and then grab a cheap PCI capture card, and hook it up to orb. the have a list of compatible cards on their site. Good luck!

Why does every one assume the South is racist? Question: When today in reality Milwaukee, WI is the most segregated city in the Nation and the most segregated school system in the New York City schools and the largest and most prolific skin head group(s) is in Illinois. I'm not saying the South has not had its problems but at least be honest here as Atlanta is one of the most racially diverse city in the U.S. So when you start making assumptions about an area or a people at least do so honestly and back it up with the truth. Otherwise aren't you just being bigoted?
do a web search the facts are clear the north has a more prolific racism problem....also remember when you assumptions are not fact
do you people ever really read a post? i never said the south did not have racism nor did i say the north was nothing but racist....reread do a web search on your facts then post....as for a woman being beaten in atlanta by the kkk, when...where are the facts if so then thats terrible but an awful lot of blacks are beaten and killed in northern, western and eastern states...the point being racisim is everywhere but to say a large group of citizens (southerners) are all racist or the states they live in is as bigoted as saying all blacks are evil. lazy gang bangers or disparaging any other group because of their ethnicity or color...i have lived all over this great nation, north, south, east and west and without a doubt the years i spent in and around the chicago area opened my eyes to racism, there was more there than any of the time i spent in the south....its was more subtle but more rampant and i think much more destructive...you believe what you want but the truth is the truth.
Answer:
I think the flip-side of your question is even better. Why does everyone assume that people in the North are not racist?

Need advice on where to move in north Georgia? Question: Hello. We are going to try and move back to Georgia next year and old friends have told me how much towns have changed outside of Atlanta. (as far as crime skyrocketing in a lot of areas) I grew up in Rockdale County which I've heard has gone downhill. What areas would you recommend? I just want an area that is lower in crime, but not a fortune to live in, with decent jobs available. I have not been back to Georgia in 16 years since we moved to Illinois so I have no idea what certain areas are like anymore. Does anyone know what College Park is like now? Thankyou for your help. : )
Answer:
Baby, College Park as changed in the past 20 years beyond recognition. My hubby grew up there, we know.
If you are looking at the south side, look into the Fayette/ Coweta area. My cousin is a realtor in Newnan. Here's a website that will hopefully shorten your search somewhat.
Good luck, hun. Welcome back home.

Is there a law that requires a doctor to wear gloves during pelvic exam? Question: I can't seem to get any answers! I have called the Illnois dept of public health, the illinois dept of professional regulation, and the CDC in Atlanta. No one seems to know. I wish this was a joke.... But it is not
Answer:
No, he does not have to, as long as he washed his hands very thoroughly with antibacterial or surgical soap before the exam. What did you think they did before they invented the surgical gloves?
There are many doctors who are either allergic to the latex, their fingers or hands are too long or thick for the largest size and they keep slipping off or breaking in the patient, or have a condition where the nerves in the hand become numb when gloves are in place and the doctor cannot feel the patient or what he is doing, etc.
As an former Combat Army nurse I've worked under many surgical conditions where gloves were not available, but good old soap and water were. We were grateful we had that! But today it is more of a medical nature a doctor doesnt wear them than a conditional one. Still, if it makes you uncomfortable, then simply change doctors.
