Questions Possibly Related to Athens, IllinoisProvided By Y! Answers
Tennessee vs Illinois - Moving to Athens TN to Greenville IL. Should I live in TN or IL? Question: What are the benefits to living in Tennessee vs Illinois and vice versa. Taxes, cost of living, food, school, jobs enter entertainment etc.
Answer:
To be honest with you i would pick Greenville, Illinois. I live in Illinois but i do not feel as though i am biased. I do love the people here, however, and I think it is one of the best places to raise a family.
After looking at the City-Data website i still feel Greenville is best. It is about half the size of Athens but crime rates such lower crime than half of the population would suggest. Also, because these are such small towns, big cities nearby can be really convienent. On that note I would also go with Greenville. They are about 50 miles from St. Louis and Chicago is always an option for a weekend getaway, especially with the ease of the metra rail lines that run throughout the city and much of the surrounding areas.
Finally the best reason of all is the FEEL of the town. Athens looks like a good ol' hometown out of the 50's but so does Greenville. The town's buildings remind you of something out of leave it to Beaver.
Last but not least the people! Many of the people both men and women, are transportation workers and accomodations and food services. These people tend to be less personal. However, in Greenville the majority of the people are in education. Teachers can be some of the best people you know and are great neighbors! Also, you really get to know who your kid's teachers are if they are your neighbors.
Hope this helped!!!

Is there a way to start over when failing at a university? Question: I'm a freshman at the University of Illinois at Chicago (2nd semester). The first semester did not go so hot for me; I got a C in my English class (but this is normal for anyone who has my prof) and a D in Chemistry and a D in Pre-Calculus. I've now decided that I want to transfer to the University of Georgia in Athens...am I stuck here until I get out of probation?
In response to someone's asking about how I am doing this semester: The only class that was from last semester that I am currently taking is chemistry - I'm taking 3 other classes and doing well in those. However, I have a different professor in Chemistry who is even harder than my first (as embarrassing as it is to admit, I think I'm doing worse this semester than last semester) but we're pretty much all in the same boat because the current professor is on probation for failing too many students last semester so chances are he'll have to curve it. Do all colleges demand a college record or could I apply as a first year student somewhere with last year's high school transcripts?
Answer:
If you are not in good academic standing, you will not be able to apply to most universities, UGA included (see link). If you do transfer, your GPA will reset, although if you were to apply to graduate schools, let's say, you are required to disclose all your academic record.
But meanwhile, how are your classes going this semester? I hope you are repeating all the classes you received D's because most university will replace the old grades. If you are struggling this semester, you should talk to an academic advisor. You may also want to consider to dropping a course(s) that you know for certain that you won't pass, as long as you have enough units to make a satisfactory progress.

Which university should I go to? Question: University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign- rank- 34
University of Georgia-athens-rank 54
VAnderbilt university-nashville- rank- 18
which one? the ranks are overall in the U.S, out of 400 universities
Answer:
I have degrees from two of them--#34 and #18. And I worked at #54.
Go to #18 if you can afford it. If it means ending up with a huge debt, go to #34.
The other one would be a great choice if you're a linebacker with NFL prospects. Otherwise, forget it.

Answer:
Not only social security, but schools and health care services are also being used by illegal aliens. They have no right to school or medical care if they are here illegally. They are breaking the law and they should be put in jail and then sent back to Mexico. Why should people who break the law be given any kind of reward or should be allowed to use any government benefits. I see all these rallies on t.v and they are all saying how they are Americans, but they are not Americans at all, they are law breakers and should pay like anyone else. I'm sorry that Mexico is so messed up, but it is not the job of the United states to help you out. I'm sure that if Americans started to cross into Mexico in huge numbers, the government of Mexico would be up in arms and the boarder would look more like a war zone. Mexico wants illegals here because it helps out Mexico, they don't put any money back into the u.s.a, they send it back home. And people also say how they are only taking jobs that Americans won't do, that's a bunch of crap, because they take good jobs from Americans and they drive our wages way down, why pay me 15 dollars an hour when they can pay an illegal 8 dollars to do the same job. Its wrong and has to stop.

what chance do i have?? Question: ok. so i got a 29 on my ACT (first try, i'll prob take it many more times later) i got a 34 on english, 32 on reading, 26 on math, and 25 on science. haven't gotten writing back yet.
i'm a pretty good writer, i think my college essays will be fine.
i have a TON of service
i will probably graduate with about a 3.8 unweighted GPA (weighted will most likely be over 4.0).
i took ap euro last year and got a 4 on the AP test and i'm probably going to take (and score well on) AP lang & comp, AP lit & comp, AP gov, AP psych, and AP german.
i'm on the school newspaper, hopefully an editor next year, but we'll see
i'm on NHS, i volunteer for church, i'll get my Gold Award for girl scouts (nerdy, i know), i lead a troop of girl scouts
i'm a high school junior right now, by the way.
what's my chance of getting into the following colleges (i want to major in journalism)
*university of missouri-columbia
*northwestern
*columbia
*NYU
*boston university
*syracuse
*univ of georgia ~ athens
*univ of florida
*univ of southern california
*univ of illinois
Answer:
You seem to be well prepared. You might spend a little time on the math and science. Your college selection is good. Missouri and Columbia are particularly well known for journalism (Columbia will be very expensive for cost of living) I think you have a good chance but sometimes the number of applicants causes good students to be passed over. Good luck. You seem to have a great deal of self confidence. Don (see about getting some very good personal recommendations: not all teachers and friends but also community leaders and employment)

question about college admissions? Question: ok, do colleges look at your weighted or unweighted GPA, generally. how about these schools?:
*university of missouri-columbia
*northwestern
*columbia
*NYU
*boston university
*syracuse
*univ of georgia ~ athens
*univ of florida
*univ of southern california
*univ of illinois
umm do they look at your individual scores on ACT? or just composite?
this is a stupid question, but can you combine scores on ACT reports? like if i got a 36 on english/23 on science on test A, and got a 33 on english/33 on science on test B, could i combine those scores, and get a 36 on english and a 33 on science?
thanks =]
Answer:
It all depends on the college. Some look at both weighted and unweighted while others just look at one or the other. If they look at unweighted then do see what AP and honors classes you did take.
As for individual scores, depends on the college. You will on your application have to send your scores to those colleges so they can if they want look at individual scores.
Some colleges only accept scores from one sitting. I'm not familiar with admissions to those colleges so I cannot speak for them.
E-mail admissions or look under their FAQ or just explore their website deeply. The more websites you look at you can see what colleges you really like, admissions, better/more classes, etc.
I wish you luck!

Terrible choices for new monopoly? Question: So a few months ago I saw that they were putting the cities of the world up to a vote to see which cities would make it on to the board. And after seeing the preliminary list I thought they would just abandon the plan to let people vote, but they didn't. Here is how the board looks:
Dark Blue
Montreal, Canada (Boardwalk)
Riga, Latvia (Park Place)
Green
Cape Town, South Africa (Pennsylvania Avenue)
Belgrade, Serbia (North Carolina Avenue)
Paris, France (Pacific Avenue)
Yellow
Jerusalem, Israel (Marvin Gardens)
Hong Kong, China (Ventnor Avenue)
Beijing, China (Atlantic Avenue)
Red
London, England (Illinois Avenue)
New York, United States of America (Indiana Avenue)
Sydney, Australia (Kentucky Avenue)
Orange
Vancouver, Canada (New York Avenue)
Shanghai, China (Tennessee Avenue)
Rome, Italy (St. James Place)
Light Purple
Toronto, Canada (Virginia Avenue)
Kyiv (Kiev), Ukraine (States Avenue)
Istanbul, Turkey (St. Charles Place)
Light Blue
Athens, Greece (Connecticut Avenue)
Barcelona, Spain (Vermont Avenue)
Tokyo, Japan (Oriental Avenue)
Brown (Dark Purple in U.S. editions)
Taipei, China (Baltic Avenue)
Gdynia, Poland (Mediterranean Avenue)
I mean Tokyo barely made the board, meanwhile Montreal and Riga, Lativa are the new Boardwalk and Park Place. And what the fuck is Gdnyia Poland? I mean Warsaw seems like a more obvious choice. Do you like the idea that relatively insignificant cities made it or do you think they should of stopped the vote and used their own judgment?
Belgrade, Serbia??? really? that beat out places like Moscow, or L.A. Not even one South American city? How 'bout Rio or Buenos Aires?
Answer:
I see your point, but people who live in or just like these cities were more interested in voting than people who lived in larger cities.
It makes sense from Parker Bro's perspective. They're just giving the monopoly-community what they apparently want. Reportedly, there were several million votes counted. Unless the voting was seriously compromised, I guess Latvians love Monopoly. Who knew?

Wildcats vs Gamecocks!? Question: Tonight's game between the Kentucky Wildcats and South Carolina Gamecocks will be huge for Kentucky. South Carolina has already beaten a top ranked Georgia team in Athens. I know they lost in Baton Rouge, but LSU is arguably the best team in the country and South Carolina gave them all they wanted. Yes, Kentucky is undefeated, but who have then beaten..... Louisville? Louisville lost to Syracuse! @ home! Let me fill you in on what Syracuse's year has been like. Lost to Washington 42-12, lost to Iowa 35-0, lost to Illinois 41-21, lost to Miami (OF OHIO!) So Louisville lost @ home to a team that wasn't beaten anyone!
Okay, I like Andre Woodson a lot, but I don't see South Carolina losing this game!
Your thoughts and/or opionins?
****crlb,
Does it really matter what you're ranked in pre-season? Yes Louisville was a #9 ranked team when Kentucky beat them, but who had Louisville beaten to be a #9 ranked team? Michigan was a #5 ranked team!? Remember?
Pre-season rankings and rankings until say around week #6 or 7 mean absolutely NOTHING!! Agree? We don't know how good a team is until they actaully play a team that has proven or unproven theirselves. True?
Answer:
I don't know, I was all for Kentucky to win this game all week until this morning when I was listening to the radio. (98.1 The Ticket rocks by the way!!!) I came to the conclusion that South Carolina is going to win this game and win it easily. Yes, Kentucky has an explosive offense and Andre Woodson might be the best QB in the Nation, but it's their defense that's in question. They have put up big #'s on offense, but against who? I could be way off here, I mean I have been wrong once or twice before.... :) But I'm calling it a blow out!!

What college would you go to? Question: If it was for journalism and based on the area. I'm also a film actor so I would act in the area, but just go to college for journalism and get acting elsewhere except for NYU. I would double major at NYU. I still have time, I just wanted your opinions. If you base it on the film acting area, journalism, area, cost and etc. Why would you go to that school?
Flagler College- St. Augustine, Florida
Northwestern University- Evanston, Illinois
New York University- New York, New York
Pepperdine University- Malibu, California
USC- Los Angeles, California
Boston College- Chestnut Hill, MA
University of Georgia- Athens, Georgia
Thanks so much!!!

Opportu nity to audition for lots of student films. USC has great connections to the entertainment industry.
It's very tough to be admitted to, and expensive, but good scholarships, both need-based and merit-based.
