    Ashland is a village in Cass County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,361 at the 2000 census. Ashland is located at 39°53′17″N 90°0′32″W / 39.88806, -90.00889 (39.887929, -90.008759). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.9 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,361 people, 546 households, and 386 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,832.3 people per square mile (710.1/km²). There were 581 housing units at an average density of 782.2/sq mi (303.1/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.60% White, 0.15% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.07% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.22% of the population. There were 546 households out of which 32.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.2% were married couples living together, 8.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.3% were non-families. 25.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
