"We're anticipating more than 100 (arrests) but the numbers have not been confirmed," said ICE spokesman Greg Palmore. "Simultaneous search warrants were executed at Koch Foods in Cincinnati and at the Koch headquarters in Chicago."
"This was a targeted work site enforcement operation involving criminal search warrants," Palmore said.
Palmore said the raid, which began at 10 a.m. EDT, was the culmination of a two-year investigation of Koch Foods, which produces chicken for export, food service and retail markets.
Calls to Koch Foods, headquartered in the Chicago suburb of Park Ridge, Illinois, were unanswered.
Tim Bachman, development services director for the city of Fairfield, said the plant near Cincinnati employs about 500 workers.
The raid on Koch was the latest in a series of immigration raids targeting businesses employing illegal workers across the United States. Many U.S. meat industry workers are immigrants, mainly Hispanics.
In December 2006, hundreds of employees were detained in raids at Swift & Co. meat plants in six states, part of a probe into identity theft involving illegal immigrants.

3. Build the fence. Arm the border. Shoot to kill. It works for banks. It works for borders.
4. Hammer the companies who hire illegals with REAL penalties. Not some measly $1000/head. How about $100,000 per head? You fail to get verified documentation of citizenship on your employee; that's what it costs you.
5. Shut down all access to schools, jobs, health care to anybody here illegally. Can't show proof you are here legally? Sorry - your kid can't enroll in school, you can't use the emergency room, you can't get a job.

The thing about college is that it's supposed to be the place where you go to broaden your horizons, grow up a little, become a little more independent and start figuring out the path your would like for you life to head.
You sound like you already know what you want to do for a living, and have decided on a school and a major. Once you graduate and start looking for jobs most of the positions you inquire about will require you to have a major in the field of Communications or something similar. There are going to be lots of classes required to gain that degree. There will also be a chance to take some classes not related.
That's a great opportunity for you to branch out and explore other options and interest. All of your major classes will be focused on Communications in the broad and narrow spectrum. Your elective classes (which is where most people pick up the credits to earn a minor) should be something else that interest you.
If you don't know where to start think about another profession that interest you and take some classes in that. Think about a class that you wouldn't normally take but think might be fun and take that. The major classes will limit you and narrow your curriculum enough without you doing it to yourself. With a communications major you can minor in all sorts of things. If you're planning on being a news anchor then the wider you cast you net the more experiences you may garner.
If you absolutely want to stay inside your major think about a minor in history, government, economics, religion, foreign affairs, international business. Those are all the things that news anchors talk about on a daily basis. My personal recommendation would be to take a music, theater, art, science, or sociology class. Something that puts you in with a different group of people. Make the most out of you short time.

Chicago police have confirmed that a body found in an SUV is that of Jennifer Hudson's 7-year-old nephew, who had been missing since Friday after the Oscar winner's mother and brother were found shot to death in their home.
Police spokeswoman Monique Bond says the boy also had been shot.
The vehicle was discovered about 40 blocks from the first crime scene, the Hudson family's home. A citizen called in a tip about the SUV Monday morning, police said.
The SUV taken away on a flatbed truck that was escorted by the police. The AP reported that television footage showed that the body of the boy was still inside the vehicle when it was taken away.
Julian, the son of Hudson's sister Julia, had not been seen since a family member found the bodies of Hudson's mother and brother in their Chicago home on Friday afternoon. That's when Darnell Donerson, 57, was discovered on her living room floor while Jason Hudson, 29, was found shot in the bedroom, police said.
Police had issued an Amber Alert for the boy after the murders were discovered. Hudson later offered a $100,000 reward for Julian's safe return and, over the weekend, community members took to the streets to look for him.
"I can't overestimate the heartfelt emotion that's part of a search like that. Jennifer Hudson really is a daughter of Chicago ... her successes were something that people took very much as their own," Ravi Baichwal, a news anchor at ABC's Chicago affiliate, told CTV Newsnet.
However, over the weekend, police temporarily held Julia Hudson's former partner, 27-year-old William Balfour, before transferring him to Illinois' corrections department.
He remains in custody because of his "active parole violation unrelated to this (double homicide) investigation," Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond said on Sunday.
Corrections department spokeswoman Januari Smith said the Illinois Prisoner Review Board will look at Balfour's case. She added that he would likely remain in custody until the review.
Michelle Balfour, the man's mother, said he had been married for several years to Hudson's sister Julia, but they had separated. She also said Donerson had ordered him to move out of the family's home last winter.
Illinois Department of Corrections documents, obtained by AP, show that Balfour spent about seven years in jail for attempted murder and other charges.
Jennifer Hudson rocketed to stardom four years ago as a finalist on American Idol. Two years later she won an Oscar for her performance in the film "Dreamgirls."

I agree with your observation. There were clearly some subtle racist overtones in Palin's speech, including her reference to Obama's background as a community organizer. Palin was clearly a shrewd VP pick. She is fervently drawing the line between the two parties and daring the democrats to cross. And she is garnering major support from the electorally potent religous right. But her selection was ultimately at the expense of good judgment, as there is nothing in her background that really qualifies her for the position. Granted, she is well-spoken and articulate, attractive and undoubtedly tough. But she lacks those characteristics that make Obama the right choice for President of this Nation: extraordinary intelligence, good judgment, and the ability to bring all people of this country together. This is going to be an interesting but very trying election for our country. God bless America!

Well someone has definately done their research. And to an extent, I agree whole heartedly. I'm tired of spending billions upon billions on those that come here illegally while we have homeless AMERICANS living under bridges. It makes no sense. However, on the other side of that coin, there are those that do come here illegally that are not in the system, commit no crimes and work their buns off doing crap jobs that we refuse to do just to feed their families. Mexico offers little in the way of possibilities and I have nothing against someone trying to better themselves. It's sort of a double edged sword. Damned if we do, damed if we don't. Just think for a second about all the field workers, the factory workers, and the food service industry, motels/hotels, etc. Most of them are migrant workers. If we kicked them out, who would do the work? We have too many Americans on welfare who are use to getting their monthly checks for not working. Do you think they'd step up? Not likely. What would be the point for them?
I like the fact that you really put facts behind your question, and I agree with the concept; however, there has to be some sort of balance. We all have to live in one world, we might as well make it a peaceful one.
So if you were to say that all these illegals that are on the welfare system, and breaking laws, or sitting in jail should be deported, then you have my vote. I'd even say if you want to be American, go over to Iraq for 18 months, fight for our country, learn english, the plegde of allegiance to the American flag, and then you can earn citizenship. I just have a problem punishing everyone for a few bad apples.

My dictionary defines “moderator” as “the nonpartisan presiding officer of a town meeting.” On Thursday, PBS anchor Gwen Ifill will serve as moderator for the first and only vice presidential debate. The stakes are high. The Commission on Presidential Debates, with the assent of the two campaigns, decided not to impose any guidelines on her duties or questions.
But there is nothing “moderate” about where Ifill stands on Barack Obama. She’s so far in the tank for the Democrat presidential candidate, her oxygen delivery line is running out.
In an imaginary world where liberal journalists are held to the same standards as everyone else, Ifill would be required to make a full disclosure at the start of the debate. She would be required to turn to the cameras and tell the national audience that she has a book coming out on January 20, 2009 – a date that just happens to coincide with the inauguration of the next president of the United States.
The title of Ifill’s book? “Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.” Nonpartisan my foot.
Ifill’s publisher, Random House, is already busy hyping the book with YouTube clips of Ifill heaping praise on her subjects, including Obama and Obama-endorsing Mass. Governor Deval Patrick. The official promo for the book gushes:

The moderator expected to treat both sides fairly has grandiosely declared this the “Age of Obama.” Can you imagine a right-leaning journalist writing a book about the “stunning” McCain campaign and its “bold” path to reform timed for release on Inauguration Day – and then expecting a slot as a moderator for the nation’s sole vice presidential debate?

Despite the protestations of her colleagues that she will be fair, Ifill has appeared on numerous radio and TV talk shows over the past several months to cash in on her access to the Obama campaign. She recently penned a fawning cover story on the Obamas for Essence magazine that earned much buzz. The title? “The Obamas: Portrait of an American Family.” A sample of Ifill’s hard-hitting investigative journalism, illustrated with Kennedyesque photos of the Obamas and children posing at home on the backporch and by the piano:
“Barack Obama is sitting in the back of his rented luxury campaign bus with its granite counters and two flat-screen TVs. The Illinois senator’s arms are wrapped around his wife, Michelle, whom he doesn’t get to see much these days. At this very moment he is, of all things, singing.”
During the Democratic National Convention, Ifill offered her neutral analysis before Michelle Obama’s speech on NBC News: “A lot of people have never seen anything that looks like a Michelle Obama before. She’s educated, she’s beautiful, she’s tall, she tells you what she thinks and they hope that she can tell a story about Barack Obama and about herself…”
During the Republican National Convention, the PBS ombudsman fielded numerous complaints about Ifill’s coverage of Sarah Palin’s speech. Wrote Brian Meyers of Granby, Ct.:
“I was appalled by Gwen Ifill’s commentary directly following Gov. Sarah Palin’s speech. Her attitude was dismissive and the look on her face was one of disgust. Clearly, she was agitated by what most critics view as a well-delivered speech. It is quite obvious that Ms. Ifill supports Obama as she struggled to say anything redemptive about Gov. Palin’s performance. I am disappointed in Ms. Ifill’s complete disregard for journalistic objectivity.”
Like Obama, Ifill, who is black, is quick to play the race card at the first sign of criticism. In an interview with the Washington Post a few weeks ago, she carped: “[N]o one’s ever assumed a white reporter can’t cover a white candidate.”
It’s not the color of your skin, sweetie. It’s the color of your politics. Perhaps Ifill will be able to conceal it this week. But if the “stunning” “Breakthrough” she’s rooting for comes to pass on January 20, 2009, nobody will be fooled.

Single point piercings... only people with experience?
Question:
My regular body piercer told me that single point piercings are illigal in illinois and are soon to be illegal in all of the US. He does not do more complicated exotic piercings by the way. I have 12 dermal anchors that were inserted by a reptuible and highly experienced piercer in Illinois. I did a lot of research on these piercings before I got them and never read anything about them being illigal anywear (which I would assume would be important info). My question is do any piercers out there know of the legality of single point piercings?? My regular piercer is the kind to bash other people's work though- I kninda hate that about him but he is really good and I thought very trustworthy. BTW- I know single point piercings carry a high rate of infection and rejection so don't tell me not to get them or that they are bad because I already have them, the oldest are a year old and the newest are a month old- I had no complications healing any of the 12.
Yeah Zoe, how about you get a life and quit worring about what other people do with their's. Just for the record I am a college graduate- with a masters (In Nursing) and I have a sucessful career. Anybody who wants to judge me for piercings they can't even see is not worth my time. You also need to learn how to read because you clearly did not read the question.
