Bonners Ferry is located at 48°41′32″N, 116°19′3″W (48.692110, -116.317626).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.8 km²), of which, 2.1 square miles (5.5 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.3 km²) of it (5.78%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,515 people, 1,027 households, and 650 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,186.9 people per square mile (458.0/km²). There were 1,120 housing units at an average density of 528.5/sq mi (204.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.67% White, 0.04% African American, 1.59% Native American, 0.52% Asian, 1.31% from other races, and 0.87% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.29% of the population.
