City DescriptionʻAiea (IPA: [ʔai.ea]) is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Honolulu County, Hawaiʻi. As of the 2000 Census, the CDP had a total population of 9,019.
At 41.41% of residents reporting the ancestry, ʻAiea contains the largest concentration of persons of Japanese heritage in the United States.
Some residents of ʻAiea claim that their town is the only town in the world spelled entirely with vowels. This claim may or may not be valid, depending on whether or not one regards the ʻokina to be part of the name "ʻAiea". Because the ʻokina is considered a consonant in the Hawaiian language, this claim is technically incorrect. However, when people outside of Hawaiʻi speak of ʻAiea, the ʻokina is typically omitted. In this context, the claim that ʻAiea is spelled only with vowels is true. However, there are many other towns in the world spelled with only vowels, including but not limited to Ea, Spain and Aue in Germany, several towns in Norway and Sweden named Å, and a village, forest and valley in Scotland called Ae. There is also a village named Y in France.
The U.S. postal code for ʻAiea is 96701.
ʻAiea is located at 21°23′9″N, 157°55′51″W (21.385900, -157.930927). According to the ... Read MoreCity Contained By:Size:Adjoining Cities:- Pearl City

Summer job in Hawaii Summer '08? Question: My sister is getting an internship at the Ala Moana mall in Hawaii this summer. She wants me to come with her and find a job also. I am totally up to do it! But I'm in college and really need to save up some money, I already have a job lined up for the summer... it's a crappy job working every weekend of the summer in a kitchen paying $8.00. I'd love to go to Hawaii but I would want that reassurance that I WILL find a job and be getting paid more than I would if I didn't go. Does anyone know of good part time jobs that pay descent in the Aiea, Hawaii or Ala Moana area? ...Oh and go ahead and make fun but I was even leaning towards a Hooters Girl. I can admit I have a pretty face, maybe not such a great body, and I have boobs but nothing that would make a guys jaw drop.
Any advice would be great! :)
Answer:
You should be able to find a job, but you may not make more than $8 an hour--salaries are much lower here. The economy is turning downward, so make sure you check out ads on Craigslist, and also make the rounds in Waikiki for waitressing or retail clerking.

Who has lived in /is living in Hawaii? Question: I'm moving to the island of Oahu, Hawaii, next month from New York. We will be going to the Aiea Heights area. Does anyone know how that area is, what the crime rate is like and if it is a decent location? I'm not worried about any prejudices against "mainlanders" or "Haoles" as my heritage is part Hawaiian. All the answers I have received have only been about how harsh locals are to incoming mainlanders. I'd like to find out all the information I can before the trip. Any information is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Answer:
Aiea Heights overlooks Pearl Harbor. Aiea Heights, I would say, is an older neighborhood but is not necessarily ghetto. There is one main road that winds up the heights. The bottom has the old sugar mill and older plantation style houses but the higher you go up the nicer the houses get. If anything crime is no different than other comparable neighborhoods on Oahu. I have a family friend and a college buddy who live up the heights so I travel there occasionally. Finally Aiea Heights is pretty close to town so your commute won't be as harsh as if coming from say the Mililani or Leeward side.
Hope this helps.
Aloha!
P.S. For every harsh local there are gonna be locals that have the Aloha Spirit so don't worry. Live Aloha!

dermatologist in hawaii anyone? Question: anyone know a good dermatologist in hawaii?around maybe pearlcity, aiea, mililani, wahiawa around those areas?in the west side but not too far like kapolei or ewa.id like to know thanks.
Answer:
Interestingly, my Honolulu magazine that arrived yesterday has it's best doctors annual list. They list the following in the areas you mentioned:
Carver Wilcox, Wahiawa, 621-1000
Paul Takiguchi, Pali Momi, 487-0083 (referrals only)
I don't know either of these docs, but am forwarding the recommendation of the magazine.
Dr. Nip-Sakamoto is also listed, but she is in town, as the other poster mentioned, & has a wait list of 6 - 7 months. I do know this doctor & she is very good.
I am a nurse & know from trying to refer patients that many dermatology practices here are very busy & you may have to wait 6 to 8 weeks for an app't unless you are lucky enough to call right after a cancellation. If you have trouble getting an app't & are willing to come into town, try Norman Goldstein at Honolulu Medical Group, 537-2211. He recently moved practices & seems to be able to see people on a timely basis. I have seen him before & he is very good.

Moving to oahu hawaii? Question: My husband, 2 year old boy and I are moving to oahu because I got a good job offer. We should be able to afford 2500 - 3000/mo for rent, are very into outdoors life and ocean sports, kayak, snorkel, scuba. I was thinking kailua looked like a good area but worried about a commute to Aiea on H3, is this a bad/crowded commute? Any other areas that you could recommend that are family oriented (not city like)?
Answer:
The commute on H3 is excellent. It drops you within a mile of Aiea. It is right on the edge of Pearl City, Aiea and Pearl Harbor.
Kailua is good. It has good schools and the water activities you mentioned.
Anything from Kaimuki to Hawaii Kai is good too. I really like Kilohana Preschool and Holy Trinity. It's in Aina Haina. You can also get to the beach or town easily from that area. The commute will be a little longer because you have to go with/through the commuters to UH, Iolani, Punahou, etc., it's pretty thick from Kaimuki to Pali, but then it clears going to Aiea. From Hawaii Kai, plan on 45 minutes to Aiea, but you will often make it in 30 minutes or less. Same from Kailua. Plan on 45, and you may get there in 20-30 to Aiea.
For $2500-$3000/month, I would buy a condo or townhome or rent on the water in Hawaii Kai. Email me if you have more questions.
