How good are action still shots with the canon GL2? Question: Hello,
How are you?
My name is Jason and I go to Bentley College in MA. I am taking a video class, and they have the canon gl2.
For spring break we have a frisbee tournament down in Georgia, and I want to be able to take still images of the action(other people will be taking movies). I was wondering how good this movie camera would be for taking action shots.
Would it be worth it for me to bring this camera? I know the zoom is great, but it's not meant for still photos.
thanks,
Jason
Answer:
Hi, I own a GL2. At first, when I saw its specs for 1.7 MP stills, I thought, "I'm sticking with my digital camera." But in reality, it's not as bad as it seems. Although the GL2 is lacking in image resolution, it makes up for it in quality. It seems contradictory but this is what I mean. My digital camera has 6MP, but it is a consumer camera, and has a tiny sensor and tiny lens. The GL2, on the other hand, has 3 big sensors and a killer lens. So maybe you won't be able to make prints of 8x10's from the GL2, but you will definitely see the improved color, dynamic range, and clarity. So if I were you, bring the GL2, and another digital camera if possible. Use the GL2 for shots that you want to look good and don't need enlarging later, and use the digital camera for shots you need to enlarge later. Hope this helps!
