City DescriptionBuchanan is a city in Haralson County, Georgia, United States. The population was 941 at the 2000 census. The city is the county seat of Haralson County.
Locally, the city's name is pronounced BUCK-an'-uhn, with the emphasis on the first syllable.
Buchanan is located at 33°48′6″N, 85°11′1″W (33.801726, -85.183506).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.4 km²), of which, 1.5 square miles (3.8 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km²) of it (11.90%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 941 people, 345 households, and 221 families residing in the city. The population density was 638.6 people per square mile (247.2/km²). There were 380 housing units at an average density of 257.9/sq mi (99.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 87.14% White, 11.37% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.11% from other races, and 1.17% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.53% of the population.

Pat Buchanan, though spot on with his analysis on this issue, is not someone who I would find myself in agreement often. (In fact, on most other issues, especially in regards to personal freedom and social progress, Buchanan is in lock-step with conservative Republicans and is even alleged to be sympathetic towards extremist far-right groups.)
Even though he shares liberals' disdain for Bush's foreign policy blunders, his motives for opposing the GOP establishment are way different than those of liberal Democrats. Buchanan is a staunch isolationist who basically wants the US to disengage from the rest of the world, both economically & politically. True liberals realize the new realities of the global economy and the ever-increasing importance of diplomacy to solve pressing foreign crises instead of neoconservative plan of resorting to knee-jerk armed conflict to settle disputes.

Scheunemann's former employer, Orion Strategies, is a lobbying firm with strong ties to Mikheil Saakashvili's administration in Georgia.
Since Georgia attempted to retake South Ossetia by force, triggering a sharp, violent rebuke by Russian forces, Sen. Is Putin right about his claim the Georgia incident was about the US Presidential election?

Putin has claimed the assault launched by Georgia on South Ossetia was a ploy to attract votes for John McCain.
Now we do know that there were indeed 1000 US military trainers and advisors in Georgia but they left just one week before Georgia started the assault.
We also know that Bush and Condi Rice have made a huge fuss over this incident - which far outweighs it's significance.
We also know that Bush has been inconsistent over this matter - endorsing Kosovo's independence - but against South Ossetia's independence.
And we also know it is pure hypocrisy to criticise Russia invading Georgia for a fortnight - when US has taken part in a much larger invasion of Iraq - and remained there for 5 years.
We also know that McCain's chief foreign policy advisor has been paid over $100,000 by Georgia to lobby for their interests.
Seems to me that Putin might be onto something.
And he's not the only one - Pat Buchanan is also questioning what Bush is up to in Georgia.
Associated Press are claiming an American passport has been found in South Ossetia after "Georgia" troops left the area. They have put the guys name on their website. He is supposed to live in Texas.

Think of it this way - if Russia decided to open talks with Mexico and form a strategic alliance with them and the central american states - and then Mexico quelled a pro US state like Baja California - dont you think Bush (or any US president) would respond with force into Mexico?

Stupid, funny, or just depressing...

What I'm referring to is this new mentality of how SEC fans suddenly support their entire east & west conferences as opposed to just their favorite team. I just read an interesting article about this on Yahoo! Rivals by Olin Buchanan (it's in his 'mailbag' article section...i don't feel like going and linking it right now) where he agrees that it's weird and kind of sad & pompous how all of the sudden, just because the SEC has managed to beat OSU twice in recent years (in the title game too, mind you), southerners are coming out of the wood-work with shirts & slogans & banners about how much they love the SEC in general, and not any specific team. Even fans of total crap-bombs like Mississippi, Miss State, Arkansas, S. Carolina, Vanderbilt, etc suddenly feel like if LSU & Florida do well, so do they somehow. It's like random 19 & 20 year olds in Mississippi suddenly think they can talk serious football with the likes of OSU, Michigan, PSU, USC, Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, etc just because they happen to be in the same conference as LSU, Georgia, and Florida (who lost to michigan (who lost to app. state...but that's neither here nor there)).
You don't really see OSU fans talking about how awesome Michigan is and how much they just love the company of the good ol' wolverines, you don't hear Stanford claiming that they should be ranked pre-season top 5 because USC is nasty, and you certainly don't see these team's fans at sporting event's wearing shirt that say "Dude, the Big-Ten totally owns", no, you see that person wearing the shirt of their favorite team only.
What's with this? Is this just some weird, backwards verion of southern pride? Are we about to see t-shirts arise about "the war of northern aggression." And is this funny or just plain sad? If a non-SEC team wins the championship this year, do you think it'll stop?

i think the tradition of football in the south carries through every school even ones that are traditional doormats like vanderbilt, and that's why we see these types of things...obviously, football is like a second religion down there especially at the high school level, and so when someone does well everyone from the sec's conference reach likes to point out how well the league is doing...it's just a difference in mentality, that's all, the rivalries in the deep south are just as bitter as osu-michigan

McCain volunteered for Vietnam, (btw his arm injuries aren't the result of torture, but the result of being shot down and crashing - the Vietnamese saved his life from that crash) he has personally admitted to being a war criminal, bombing women and children there. McCain is all about war, coming from a long line of soldiers.

Because it was. Why the debate has gone on so long is a mystery to me. Americans being so incredibly ignorant of the facts and hypnotized by the media is contributory, but fear plays a big role. There's a lot to fear, but not who you are led to fear.
