City DescriptionBetween is a town in Walton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 148 at the 2000 census.
The town is called Between because it is between two of Georgia's largest cities — Atlanta and Athens are the exact same distance to Between. It is also between Walton County's two largest cities, Loganville and Monroe .
Matthew Thomas "Bud" Dalton taught music lessons and sang both for his church and throughout Walton, Gwinnett and Barrow Counties in Georgia. He was a star route carrier; he carried mail from Campton, Monroe, Between, Snellville, and he slept in Loganville, Georgia between 1870 to 1910. Edgar Dalton, born 7 May 1905, on Hwy 11 of Monroe, Georgia, said that when the first store was built in Between, Georgia, the owner did not know what to call the store. Matthew Dalton knew the people that owned the store as he had been carrying mail on horseback at that time. Matthew Thomas Dalton told the owners that they should call the store Between, Georgia. (The Postmaster of Monroe got the credit for name Between, Georgia.)
Between is located at 33°48′50″N, 83°48′33″W (33.813956, -83.809170).

Questions Possibly Related to Between, GeorgiaProvided By Y! Answers
Will a war between Georgia and Russia cause problems for the US, concerning the presidency.? Question: Will Pres. Bush have to remain President if we become involved with in conflict between Russia and Georgia soverienty.
Answer:
The only way that could happen would be for something terrible to occur. By that I mean nuclear war, which given the way Russia is acting lately it's not as much of a long shot as one might think.
If this were to happen it is conceivable that Bush would put a hold on the election until a time that society had begun to recover. This is not unprecedented. All Democracies have gone through periods of "Dictatorship", for lack of a better term, in times of extreme crisis.
You should read the book "Constitutional Dictatorship; Crisis Government in the Modern Democracies" by Clinton Rossiter.

Who was the initial aggressor in the current conflict between Georgia and Russia in Ossetia? Question: I'm confussed as to why this conflict actually started. Was it Georgia encroaching on Osseita or Russia wanting to take control of Osseita?
Reading all the answers all though informative, I can now see why I'm confussed.
Answer:
Both and neither.
Damn near every war on this earth is fought for financial reasons, for the benefit of business.
Georgia could care less about the people of South Ossetia, they want the land for ethnic Georgians.
Russia could care less about the people of South Ossetia. There invasion of Georgia was for economic reasons, not to save the people of South Ossetia.
The Iraq war was about oil as was the Afghanistan war.
Ideology, terrorism, WMD, tyrants, dictators, these are all red herrings. Ideological BS for public consumption because the public cannot stomach the truth and wouldn't outright support wars for economic gain.
Unless the leadership of a nation is insane (IE like Hitler) they choose the wars they fight carefully, calculating the risk/benefit potentials for their nation's corporations and banks.
What is really disgusting, besides war for profit, is the shameless propaganda fed to the public through the media. Yahoo itself posts stories on the Russia/Georgia/South Ossetia conflict and does not even mention the initial shelling of South Ossetia which killed an estimated 2000 people.
All they mention is how terrible Russia is being, how the US is thinking of expelling them from the G8, how they are targeting civilians (unsubstantiated). Clearly Washington wants the average American to have a unfavorable opinion of Russia.
If the U.S. decides to blockade Iran, guess whose disapproving opinion will be downplayed.

What exactly is going on between georgia and russia? Question: Ive been seeing about it on the news and it just doesn't make sense to me can some one explain to me whats really happening?
Answer:
It's a conflict that goes back to 1989. Inside Georgia are two enclaves that want closer ties to Russia and independence. One of them, South Ossetia, declared independence in 1990, but no country recognized it, but Russia started backing them politically and economically.
Now that Georgia has asked admittance to NATO, it invaded South Ossetia, in the hope that the other Nato countries would help it against Russia. That was a political mistake, and as a result civilians have died, the Georgian army was decimated and Russian nationalists celebrate. As the French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said "A medieval war."

however Metroplitan Kiril of Smolenks, Russia said the following
Today our country is facing the danger of war and a new surge of slander that those who don’t like Russia’s historical choice are ready to raise,” Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad pointed out in his ministerial speech on conclusion of the service in the Assumption Cathedral of Smolensk. His words are cited by channel “Vesti”.
On the feast day of the Mother of God of Smolensk icon Metropolitan Kirill noted: “Today we have offered up a particularly ardent prayer to the Odigitria and henceforward we must daily pray that the ordeal we are undergoing now should come to a peaceful end as soon as possible and that peace be restored between the Georgians and the Ossetians, two peoples sharing the same faith”.
Having reminded about the feat of the peace-makers, who had perished, the metropolitan said: “We entreat God and Our Lady that the bloodshed stop as soon as possible and that peace and well-being should reign in our country, as well as in Ossetia, in Georgia, in the Caucasus and everywhere”.
and Metropolitan Herman of the Orthodox Church of America
has said the following http://www.oca.org/news/1615
SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications] -- On August 11, 2008, His Beatitude Metropolitan Herman issued the following statement concerning the recent military conflict between Russia and Georgia that broke out in the disputed Caucasus region of South Ossetia on August 8.
"The hierarchs, clergy, and laity of the Orthodox Church in America are observing the recent conflict between Russia and Georgia with heavy hearts. In the course of many years we have regarded our close relations with the Orthodox Churches of Russia and Georgia as precious signs of communion and solidarity. It is thus deeply painful to see the war between Georgia and Russia, and the resulting suffering for many in the war zones in South Ossetia and Georgia.
"We pray that the political leaders, as they make their decisions, may care above all for the life and safety and well-being of their peoples.
"We pray that the cessation of hostilities through a cease-fire will create the conditions for a peaceful settlement.
"We pray that all political leaders and political institutions may exhibit realism and sanity as they dedicate their efforts to a peaceful resolution of a conflict which is causing suffering to many people and which has dangerous implications for the relations among states in the Caucasus, in Eastern Europe, and in the whole world.
"We thank Almighty God for the witness for peaceful relations between Russian and Georgia consistently given by the Patriarch of Moscow and the Patriarch of Georgia. May this witness be an effective avenue for the overcoming of violence and all threats to peace in the Caucasus region."
His Beatitude has also sent letters of support to His Holiness, Patriarch Aleksy of Russia and His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia of Georgia. "The violent conflict between Russia and Georgia, resulting in much suffering and bloodshed, is observed by Orthodox Christians in America with deep concern and with heavy hearts," Metropolitan Herman wrote. "I extend to you my profound sympathy as you face the tragic conflict. Your spiritual leadership is, of course, a powerful witness in the Russian and Georgian societies. May God bless your continuing efforts to promote realism, sanity, and hope."

What is your opinion on the fighting between Georgia and russia? Question: what do u think and do u think this could possibly pull the world into another war?
im ready to fight those stupid fukcers
Answer:
because this didn't just pop up out of the blue like one day they were all happy neighbors and then one day, bang, somebody started bombing the crap out of villages. russia used to be the soviet union that ruled with an iron fist. kind of like if the united states killed state representatives for their views instead of allowing their voices to be heard. this faction of russia, called hardliners, still exists and is trying to make its presence known again. there has been a rattling of sabers coming out of russia lately. georgia is now a sovereign and civilized state with it's own government that poses no threat to russia other than to be a sovereign state. russia has shown signs that it wants to be the ruler of these states again. it's not quashing a rebellion it's trying to refortify it's hard line values and is behaving opportunistically in order to "own" that territory for it's own world conquest, which it formerly resigned as unsupportable. unlike the us/iraq situation, russia literally has designs to rule these people, the us supports iraq as a nation unto itself...the ultimate difference would be that the us doesn't do things like start trying to take mexico as it's own to exploit their resources and people. the reason we don't do this is besides being just wrong, we could not rule their people (don't get me wrong here, just hypothetical) with our predisposition toward the human spirit itself. we could not rule there because it would be a humanitarian nightmare. we would not be able to support these new states in a humane way. russia on the other hand, as far as the old ways, would have little or no concern for such issues. anybody that thinks russia is behaving compassionately toward anybody and has no other goal but to be compassionate has completely written off what we know about it's history and the fact that this type of action is absolutely predictable and only clarifies that the iron curtain will fall again trapping millions if left unchecked.
i would like to underline my point with this...being a part of the us army during the cold war, and having trained and prepared with many other americans and allies to fight the warsaw pact, it was common knowledge that on the front lines that our first opponents would not be russians themselves but more likely would be romanians who would be forced ,literally, to spearhead russian assaults. they were considered lesser human beings in the soviet union and would be used in suicide fashion to deplete our fighting capability, we knew that if and when the fighting began that we would have no other choice than to wipe out these poor, woefully underequipped, souls who would either move forward against us or be killed from behind as soviet doctrine was to force them forward by walking artillery up behind them.
...and by the way, this preparedness has never waned and the us military is fully prepared, now, as it was then, to go toe to toe

How did the war start between Georgia and Russia? Question: Both sides are claiming it is the other sides fault for starting this war. Who do you think started it?
Answer:
Georgia started it and are murdering innocent South Ossetians.
Russia are fully within their rights to launch a counter offensive against the Georgians.
Georgia has acted in an underhanded, devious manner by gambling on its ties with the USA to allow it to launch this offensive and were gambling on the hope that Russia would be too frightened of its links to the West to come to the South Ossetians aid.
I say fair play to Russia for standing up for the South Ossetians in the face of this unnecessary aggression, after all, who else will?
Georgia has to accept that the South Ossetian people have chosen their own destiny, and it lies with Russia not with Georgia.
After all, it was ok for Kosovo to break away from Serbia, wasn't it?
TBH it's a shame because I want to support the Georgian people, but not in this.

In short, whats going on between Georgia and Russia? Question: I am just curious mainly because my sister in law said that jehovah witnesses are being persecuted in georgia for practicing their religion, but that doesnt make any sense to me. I dont think thats why theyre fighting, so why?
Answer:
The province of Ossetia is historically part of Georgia, but its populace includes many Russians. Although Georgia has been independent from the Soviet Union for nearly twenty years, Ossetia has never been fully under Georgia's control and instead has been relatively independent.
Recently, the Georgian government sought to quell unrest in Ossetia by military means, and Russia "defended" Ossetia. The defense included attacks beyond Ossetia, into non-Ossetian Georgia. Perhaps Russian hopes to annex Ossetia, or merely to keep Ossetia independent. Or perhaps Russia intends merely to demonstrate that it will forcefully protect its historic sphere of influence.
The country of Georgia has been shockingly intolerant of minority religions such as Jehovah's Witnesses. The official website of Jehovah's Witnesses' Office of Public Information has a good summary of their experiences there.. ..

Why is McCain not considered "presumptuous" for interfering in the conflict between Russia and Georgia? Question: Why is it that Obama was considered "presumptuous" for making a speech in Germany, but McCain can criticize the administrations handling of the Russia-Georgia conflict, send his "envoys" over to Georgia to stick their noses in, and make a speech where he takes sides between two foreign nations and say "I speak for all Americans" -- and nobody calls that presumptuous?
Please actually answer the question instead of using my question as an excuse to slime either candidate.
Answer:
Well, first off, he made those statements here, in America, which is obviously different than speaking in a foreign country to a foreign audience.
Second, no one ever calls a candidate "presumptuous" for challenging the current administration's actions or policies.
Sadly, he is incorrect in saying that he speaks for all Americans, because he doesn't. What he said SHOULD have represented all of us, but a lot of us don't have the guts to stand up for freedom, and to resist tyranny.

What does the conflict between Georgia and Russia mean for us? Question: Is Russia attempting to build a new Soviet Union? What will this mean for the U.S.? Will we go to war against Russia to protect our friends in Georgia?
Answer:
Simple truth about Georgia and Osetia
What is happening now?
Osetia is a small ethnicity between Russia and Georgia. We have only 100 thousands of people and 2 thousands of them already died because of ETHNIC CLEANSING by Georgians.
What it is happening now is simple GENOCID of Osetians by Georgians.
Who started the war?
Georgia has started the war and genocide by coming to the capitall of Osetia with tanks and cannons. They started to bomb civilians in the small city. And they killed 2000 of them in 3 days!!! All dying people you see in the newspapers – are Osetian defenceless civilians dying from massive shelling. Moreover Gergians also killed many OSCE peacekeepers who stayed on the border and tried to protect Osetia.
Why they do all that?
Osetia has beautiful lands near the coast of the Black Sea. From ancient times Georgia wanted to take those lands. They never ruled Osetia. Georgians already tried to perform mass killings in the past. All we could do to protect ourselves and our lands is to ask our another neighbour – Russia to stop Georgians.
How they could do that?
Why American newspapers and TV doesn’t tell the truth? Why 2 weeks before this attack American soldiers and instructors came to Georgia and made training to Georgian army (it even was shown by American TV). It is simple – America planned and then started dirty campaign against Russia. Dirty because they do it by Georgian hands and because the price for this is OUR LIFES. If nobody stops Georgians – Osetians will physically disappear as ethnicity.
Just look at the numbers with more attention – 2000 Osetians killed against 6 Georgians.
And it happened in Osetia – not in Georgia.
Why Georgian president lies?
He always lies. He lies to us, to his American supporters, to international community. Just remember his latest interview when he sits under the European Union flag, so everybody thinks that Georgia is the part of EU. Georgia was NEVER part of European Union.
What we can do now?
We can eat what official newspapers and TV gives us. But remember when they told us that Iraq had chemical weapon. They bombed Iraq and thousands of Americans were killed to let oil companies earn more on Iraq’s oil. But, who talks about chemical weapon now? The fat is in the fire now.
It is simple like that:
If we don’t stop Georgians now they will take Osetia’s land and kill most of Osetians.

How do I find out how my county in Georgia is split between parties (Rep & Dem)? Is there a website? Question: How do I find out how my county in Georgia is split between parties (Rep & Dem)? I have looked on the Ga Secretary of State's website and cant find out. Is there a website that I can go to?
Answer:
I don't think there's a site that will split hairs down that far. Best you can do is see the way the majority went after the election. They would have to be able to track how each person voted by party and home address. Even though they could probably do that (we all know big brother is watchin') I don't think they would publish that info.
They're not having much luck splitting Fulton county up, back to old Milton county either. It's too 'racist'.

Poll: Who do you believe is to blame for the war between Georgia and Russia? Question: Please explain your answer and where you are from.
I ask you to put where you are from because I am very curious about who believes what. Specifically, I want to know what the majority of Americans believe.
pink.zone, nobody said that they wish this to go on forever. Of course we want it to stop. And yes, we do care about the people who were killed or hurt and their families. I'm also scared of where this conflict could lead to.
Answer:
Georgian president. While many Georgians would like to have South Ossetia under their control:
1) Most Georgians would not start a war over it.
2) No Georgian would start a war over it with Russia.
However they had no choice. Do you know that if Georgian citizen refuses to serve in Georgian military, the penalty is 10!! year imprisonment?
Accordingly, I don't blame Georgians, I don't blame Russians and I certainly don't blame Osetians (the victims)
The responsibility for the conflict is on Georgian president who placed his ambitions above the good of his own people.

What is the cause of the recent conflict between Georgia and Russia?
Answer:
At the time of the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, the S. Ossetian province wanted to remain with Russia, or more particularly with North Ossetia. They wanted to separate from Georgia, most of the little population did not recognize the Georgian central government and fighting broke out. In the mid-90's, a cease fire and truce was signed by all parties, and all sides agreed to have peacekeepers in the province, one being the Russians.
Georgia broke the truce that they signed when they attempted to take control of the region last Friday. Many of the people in South Ossetia are Russian nationals or have Russian passports, the currency is the Russian ruble, not Georgia's currency and most importantly, the people are ethnically related to North Ossetia, across the border in Russia.
While it may look like a violation of Georgia's territory, the squabble is not as black and white as you may think. The timing of the recent conflict was calculated...based on two events: all eyes on the west were on the Olympics and Pres. Bush is soon to leave office. Georgia gambled that Bush would (will) not let them down.
Unfortunately for them, they'll be left high and dry, the same way the Czechs and Hungarians were in the 50s and 60s when the Ruskies clampled down on them too, even tho they called for western assistance. The only support they'll get is rhetorical and a few UN sanctions.

will america join in the war between georgia and russia? Question: im just kinda scared, cuz i cant ask my parents cuz they will give me a 30 minute speech about wars and history and all that blah that im just ignore, i just wana know peoples opinion, cuz no one really knows, but what do u htink? do you think we will get involved? or will we mind our own business?
Answer:
We will get involved in a indirect way.
I see a HUGE Humanitarian Assistance mission with a military presence involved.
Georgia was wrong for pushing Russia's buttons.
Russia was wrong for pummeling Georgia.
I feel bad for all the civilian deaths.
EDIT - NetJr, Iraq is NOT a 3rd world country! Look them up on CIA World Fact -
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geo s/iz.html
Afghanistan has been behind the times since the late 70s, but that is only because they have been at war for almost 40 years!
EDIT - Tabby and WayDMS... read back thru history and look what happens to the US when we become isolationist! I do not want to be the "world police" either, but we live in a finite world with finite resources against people who believe the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. If we dont stop leaders like Saddam, we will be losing so many lives when they turn into Hitlers.

Why does everyone expect the US to jump in between Georgia and Russia? Question: What Europe huh? They are in the freaking same continent why not go ask them?
Or the UN or something, why is it that everyone always expects the US to go in guns blazing when someone else fu*ks up?
I thought you guys didn't like war? Now your asking us to go poke around with Russia and possibly cause WW3?
Answer:
we shouldn't. but people expect us to because they've been conditioned to think that way. our interventionist foreign policy, under Republicans and Democrats alike, has taught people to see us as the world's sheriff.
