Any suggestions for a nice economy hotel? I would also be interested in any accomodations that would be outside of town but would have access to public transportation. Answer:
I always recommend the Wingate Inn at Six Flags. Its only 3 yrs. old and about 10 minutes from downtown Atlanta. They have a free full breakfast, swimming pool, jacuzzi, courtesy shuttle, all for less than 100.00 per nite.

I currently live in Atlanta Georgia and want to relocate up north to New York, I am an entrepreneur!? Question: I am a single african-american women, raised in the south (New Orleans and Georgia) and I am so tired of the south. I always been free spirited in my thought process and recently been to NY in August(1st time) and I loved it. I just don't have family or friends that lives up there and the people that I know down in Atlanta are so closed minded and think the North is too fast pace. I am single 23 and no kids with goals to establish my business (ecommerce) any suggestions! Where should I live? I work for a company that will let me relocate, so I do have a full time position, but I am salary, so something real affordable and safe....I also plan enrolling in school back again to enhance my skills in production and editing, any community colleges? Help! Thanks!
Answer:
Check with your company. Find out their location in NYC.
If you're a first time NY-er, I would recommend these neighborhoods: BROOKLYN: Greenpoint, Red Hook, Park Slope, + other adjacent neighborhoods in that area.
Here is an in-depth article abouot Brooklyn and it's neighborhoods: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooklyn
QUEENS: Astoria or Jackson Heights vicinity.
article:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queens
the BRONX: Riverdale
article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronx
All these articles are pretty accurate.
Also, check out http://www.craigslist.org for apartment listings. I would suggest jumping on this ASAP, as it can be very difficult to find an apartment anywhere in NYC.
PS. If anybody tells you to stay away from the Bronx, they obviously have never been there and have no idea what they're talking about.
Best of luck!!

What is the minimum age to get a job in Atlanta, Georgia? Question: Question pretty much sums it up, I'm wondering what is the minimum age to get a job in Georgia, in Atlanta. So any feedback is great, thanks.
Answer:
Hello John
At 14 you can work a limited number of hours with a work permit which your parent or guardian needs to sign for at the local board of education. 15-20 hrs a week when school is in session, 40 when school is out. There are restrictions on what you can do which boil down to nothing "hazardous" including operating pretty much any machinery. At 16 you can get a full time job (no hour restriction during school weeks) and do not need a work permit. The hazardous work limits still pretty much apply though are a bit looser.

Answer:
Ja-Nae's Hair Studio, One of the best if not the only hair salon for african american women in Marietta Ga and surrounding areas. A co-worker of mines introduced me to this salon. The prices are affordable and the stylists really knows what they are doing. I highly reccomend Stylist Ranae. Girlfrind is amazing. She brings back the life to anyones hair. Please check them out. You will not be dissappointed. Where else can you find a relaxer and style for 40 dollars. Most salons charge 55 and up and you sometimes don't get good results. Try these ladys out.

What can I do with a bachelor degree in psychology, living in Atlanta Georgia? Question: What can I do with a bachelor degree in psychology, living in Atlanta Georgia?
I've recently moved to Atlanta and have a bachelor degree in psychology. I've been stuck working a receptionist job for the last 3 1/2 months. I'm trying to find a job in my field, I've looked everywhere at least I think I have. I want something in mental health, or adolescent detention center. Im really considering moving because I need another job that can pay my bills and my student loans. I plan on going to graduate school next year fall. but I cant start until I find a job. any advice? please help
Answer:
Go to GA labor dept in person or on line at www.the jobsite.org and look into State Merit jobs. Many require a BA in any social science. Examples. Dept of Family and Children's services case workers and case managers (most counties), utilization coordinators in behavioral health, (DeKalb), community resource specialist for persons w/ developmental disabilities (Fulton), Go to www.ga.gov and look under Juvenile Justice fofr the YDCS (youth detention centers). The labor dept will also have listing of jobs in private businesses.
Other possibilities are local schools, Annandale in Swannee a facility for ppl w/ developmental disabilities, Do a search at a site like Altavista that allows you to do an advanced search specifying terms like Youth Services and Atlanta. Contact the mental health facilities like Charter Peachford to see what openings they may have at BA level.
Looking in other directions psych majors often do well in sales and marketing. Not the field of choice I understand but good money. Since you have receptionist skills use them to open doors into organizations in which you want to work if they don't open right away. If you have language skills that will also help open some doors. If you don't consider taking a summer course or net course inexpensively to add to your resume. Check the temp agencies for temp to perm positions in your field. It is typical of the Atlanta market that many agencies and businesses go that route in hiring.
Do some volunteer work in the field of mental health or youth work. It builds your resume and more important it puts you in contact w/ ppl in the profession who in turn are in contact with other ppl in the field. Talk to Atlanta Community Foundation or United Way volunteer bureau for ideas. Be aware that some organizations tend to make entry level psych and social services very low paying. One well known disaster relief organization was paying senior caseworkers (which they claim is an entry level job) $6 an hour a few yrs back. Painful but a path some have taken for the experience and gone on to far better jobs.
You are to be congratulated for taking a job you could get and earning now rather than being like many new grads and doing nothing because nothing because you didn't immediately find what you most wanted. It is much easier to find a job while you are working. That seems especially true in Atlanta.

What are average household expenses in Atlanta, Georgia? Question: I am relocating from Upstate NY to Atlanta and I need some help estimating my expenses. My fiancee and I will be renting a two story 2200 square foot house. It will just be the two of us and our dogs. I am looking for what your average heat/gas, electric, water & sewer bills are. In NY we pay about $150 a month for heat and $100 a month for electric. Water and sewer are included in our real estate taxes. We usually keep the air conditioner on 24/7 in the summer - with the thermostat set at about 70. Same thing goes for the winter - we keep the house temperature at about 70.
I know that everyone's usage is different, however, I would just like to know what people in Georgia pay - on average.
Thanks for all your help!!!
Answer:
There are a number of cost of living comparison calculators available on the internet. Here's a link to a google search for them: http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&q=cost+of+living+com parison&btnG=Google+Search
You can try contacting the local utility company and asking for a 12 month record for the utility bill for that address. Explain to them that you are the new tenant and are planning your budget.
Where I live they will not give you the month to month totals but will give you the average monthly bill over the last 12 months. They will also set up a payment plan where you pay the average amount each month regardless of the actual bill. The final bill each year is the reconciliation where you pay the collective balance (either more or less depending on the total usage throughout the previous 12 months). The average monthly bill is updated annually.

What is the best Atlanta, Georgia suburb to live in? Question: What is the best Atlanta, Georgia suburb to live in?
Answer:
It depends a lot on what is important to you and what part of Atlanta you work in. Atlanta traffic is H_ _ _ so the shorter commute and the less of it on 75 85 285 the better.
I have lived mostly in NE suburbs tho also in Smyrna and Marietta so my knowledge of other parts is limited. I do have friends who think Peachtree City is great if you prefer being South of the City. I personally prefer Buford or Flowery Branch if the commute is doable because you come closer to having the best of both worlds. You are close enough to have the city and far enough out to have Lake Lanier which is premier recreation and be in the mountains in less than 45 min. Buford also has Mall of GA which is great shopping quite possibly the best shopping in Metro Atlanta. If you need the airport often go for Peachtree City or somewhere down there because you do NOT want a cross town ride frequently. Scools are in the OK or better range in Gwinnett (Buford) and a bit better in Flowery Branch. Hall County where Flowery Branch is does have some not so good schools but the ones in the FB area are OK tho I am not overly happy about S. Hall High. There are good private schools in the area too.
If you must be close in be aware that Doraville and Chamblee are getting quite run down and that parts of Norcross are getting into the high crime category tho they were very nice areas.
For someone retired but able to drive I would suggest even further out and even for someone working in the Dunwoody area or NE of there commuting to Dawsonville or even Dahlonega may be very doable because of GA 400. Some yrs back we lived in Peachtree Corners *just W of Norcross) and worked in Dunwoody and discovered we could get much more house, enjoy real country living in the mountains in the southern part of Dahlonega and actually have no longer a commute. However when the co we worked for closed we did find being that far out a disadvantage and chose to work and later open a business in NE GA rather than do the Atlanta commute.

What is the pay for a Monitor tech/unit secretary in the hospital in Atlanta Georgia? Question: I plan to move to Atlanta Georgia from Los angeles Califronia next year and was wondering what was the job pay for a Monitor tech/unit secretary in Atlanta at any major hosptals in the Atlanta metro area . I know that I will have to take a pay cut , but I need to know how much of a pay cut. sense I will be purchasing a home out there before I Move out there. I need to know what my budget will be.
Answer:
Shockingly LOW! even with evening and night differential pay which you will be working as new employee. Full time employees begin to accumulate benefits starting day 91 past an initial review of first three months work performance.
Be prepared to be paid HALF , yes half, of your current hourly rate.
You, RNs in CA are best paid in nation! Sure you want to move?
Good rule of thumb is mandatory minimum wage, add 20%-28%.
Are you aware Georgia is now a RED state? If you seek moderate to liberal friends/diversity, move
to NE Atlanta/Decatur, Dekalb county.
Piedmont-Promina Hospital System in Metro-Atlanta has reputation for best pay, bonus based on performance, low turnover rate, high standards for employees.
If you prefer 9-5 Mon-Fri, your people skills may give you opportunities in physicians/dentists offices. They routinely pay a little less but are more employee friendly, less stress, no working National Holidays. If interested, chose a large office with an office manager in place (not physicians spouse), better benes & pay with sucessful, busy group practice.
The trade-off in GA is you will be able to own a home, pay property tax, and afford both.
Good Luck to you in your move and with a new employer.
PS Try renting for 6-12 months before home purchase. You will have many adjustments to make. With longest commute time in nation, you want to LOVE your new employer and neighborhood before buying.Trying to sell a home in this market is tough, up to 18 months even if house in perfect condition in a good school area/neighborhood.
Atlanta, Savannah are cool cities to live and work in medical field and in general quality life-style!
