City DescriptionAlpharetta is an city in north Fulton County, Georgia, United States. As of 2006 census estimates, the city had a total population of 43,424 According to recent estimates the city has a total population of 52,045.
Selected for its location next to a spring, it began as a campground, originally known as New Prospect Camp Ground until late 1858. Officially chartered on December 11 of that year, Alpharetta (Greek for "first town") served as the county seat of Milton County until the end of 1931 when Milton was merged with Fulton County to avoid bankruptcy during the Great Depression.
Alpharetta is located 14 miles north of Atlanta’s central business district and 28 expressway-miles from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world's busiest airport.
Georgia 400 (U.S. 19) is the freeway connecting suburban Alpharetta with Atlanta to the south. It parallels surface highway S.R. 9, which was originally multiplexed with U.S. 19 and was the only paved road through town prior to the county merger. The only place I know that has any rabbit breeders (that sell) is Atlanta. I live in Columbus, and that's the closest place to me.

It is very suburban and very sprawling. The downtown area is very small. Life is a little more quiet than in the inner suburbs of Atlanta. There are lots of shops and restaurants spread out all over the city, but just a few in the downtown area. A few small parks are left. Lots of development is still happening in the area, too. The town square is always beautifully decorated for Christmas. The downtown area is often decorated for other holidays, too -- such as with hay bales, indian corn, and pumpkins for halloween. In the downtown area, there's an annual event called Taste of Alpharetta. A lot of restaurants have booths and sell samples of their specialties. On the surface streets, traffic is a bit of a problem on Windward Parkway and North Point Parkway during rush hour, but the rest of the time it isn't too bad.

Is the Alpharetta Center at GSU an actual campus for Georgia Perimeter College?

I'm planning on moving up to Georgia from Tampa, Florida and wanted to transfer to Georgia Perimeter College, but on their website it says Alpharetta at GSU. Does that mean it's part of Georgia State? I was told to look at the cities of Alpharetta and Dunwoody to live until I can transfer to University of Georgia. What do you guys think of those two cities and is the Alpharetta campus actually part of Georgia Perimeter?

Being in Alpharetta, you're not too far from Dalonagna, which is where the gold for the top of the dome of the GA State capital building was mined.
From there it's a short ride to Amicalola Falls - the highest waterfall east of the Mississppi. Further east is Brasstown Bald, the highest point in the state of Georgia.
Chickamagua would be a nice day trip to the Civil War battlefield, and well as the Etowah Indian Mounds in Cartersville, Kennesaw Mountain and the Kennesaw Civil War museum, the Confederate Cemetery in Marietta.
For a longer trip...Savannah is FULL of history....the 1st planned city in the colonies....it was given to Lincoln as a Christmas by Sherman on his march to the sea.

I agree with AF that it is very curious that they do not have a working Web site. While that _could_ indicate a problem, in this case I think it is more likely that H & H offices are all independently run (franchises, I guess). It is a reason to be careful, but not necessarily the red flag that AF suggests.

Anyone know anything on abandoned Hopewell Elementery in Alpharetta, Georgia?

Supposedly this school was shut down in 1970 after 7 children were poisoned in the cafeteria. It's still standing, with everything still inside. One of my friend's sister went the other night and has crazy pictures. Has anyone every heard of this? Or does anyone mind research about it and posting it?

Both are great places to live. Dunwoody is a little closer to Atlanta than Alpharetta. Both have good school districts and are good suburban areas. Traffic will be horrible in both places, but that is Metro Atlanta.
Personally, I like Alpharetta more. You are further out, but still close to Atlanta.

alpharetta is in fulton county. it is a suburb of atlanta, on the northside. a very nice area. i used to live there. im in miami now. the daily newspaper for alpharetta is the atlanta journal constitution, but there is a local paper that comes out every thursday, called the northside "something." you can probally do a search and find the name. but everybody up there reads the AJC daily. if you need anything else let me know.
