What's the best bait to catch shark (lemon, bull,....) in the gulf?? Question: Im in bradenton beach, florida and i was wondering what i should use to catch shark and also what times are best( midday, night)? Any other tips are appreciated. Thanks
Answer:
I just submitted a water body record blacktip here in Texas. Beat out my cousin's record, but not my brother's record for a Bull Shark.
The way I successfully catch sharks (and how I taught my cousins and brother) is to have a good long solid steel leader (long enough that the shark's skin won't fray the line), with a large hook on the end. A kingfish leader will work too, but add another section of steel leader above it. I use a whole live mullet about 18-20 inches long and cut it up some so it will bleed. About 12 inches from the top of the leader I use light fishing line to tie a coke bottle or water bottle for a float. This keeps the mullet away from the crabs and out of the grass. The light line allows it to break off when it gets hit by a shark and minimizes the drag while fighting it. I also have good luck using Ladyfish (skip-jack) for bait. If it's really big I cut a section off of it and I slice it up some just like Mullet. Pretty much any large chunk of fish will do the trick. Be sure to have enough with you to chum up the water and draw the sharks in. For chum I usually cut up the extra fish into a bucket with about 10 inches of water in it. This gets the blood out. Make small pieces (2-3" chunks) so the shark won't get side-tracked too much when he finds it. I usually drift for them with the gear trailing out about 50 yds from the boat, or a little more. You can anchor up for them, too. If you're fishing from the beach you just need to make sure you can get the bait out to about 4-6 feet of water...prime depth. Not that they won't come in closer, they can. You probably won't need to chum as much in the surf.

Is it against the law to camp on the beach? Question: I live in Bradenton, Florida. which is manatee county, and this weekend i saw a tent on the beach for several days. If it was against the law I would think the police would of told them to leave by day four. I can't find anything online about it.
Its not really a public beach, its a causeway. But is it against the law? It looks like fun.
Answer:
I was raised in FL. and as far as I know you can camp on most beaches. If you have a boat any island out on the water is cool, but check with the rangers at whichever beach you are looking into and they will let you know, also there are some really good spots up in North FL on the Swannee River, we used to refer to it as gods country very nice people, and a beautiful river. look into the liveoak area, there are places where you can just go and camp and NOBODY will bother you. just remember to keep it clean. Hope this helps

bradenton, florida anyone? Question: im thinking about moving here and any information about the place would be a lot of help...upsides and downsides. places to be, where to get good food, movie houses, etc plus i heard they had a nude beach.....just wondering.
traffic and climate info would do much help....and the current conditions
Answer:
We've been here for over 10 years. I love Bradenton. It is a great place to live. In the winter we have a few really cold weeks but the usual winter temp is in the 70's. Right now though, it is hot and humid, which just makes it easier to appreciate the nearby gulf and beaches. As far as a nude beach, there is Bird Key, but it is more of a small island/sand bar and you have to sail out to it.
As far as housing, there is a lot to say. West Bradenton is closer to the water, with older homes and established quaint neighborhoods. East B'ton has most of the newer neighborhoods and is convenient to I-75.
There are good restaurants everywhere and if it's not here, Sarasota is only 30 minutes away, with Tampa/St. Pete about 45 minutes in the opposite direction. It all depends on what you're looking for. I'll be happy to help out in your search. Feel free to write me at cfsdean@tampabay.rr.com with your specific questions.

It there an off season for travel to Florida? Question: I want to travel from Texas to Fla. to see my soon to be first Great Grandchild. It will probably be sometime in October. I have checked with travelosity, and others but it is not cheap. Am I planning to far in advance or is that just a high priced place to travel to....I am pricing with a car, hotel and flight. Is that the best way to do it? I want to be somewhere near Bradenton. What is the best airport to fly into and is one destination (airport near there) cheaper then the other? I want a nice hotel, near the the beach w/ microwave and fridge. Gonna stay 7 days. Any help would be appreciated.
Answer:
Florida is currently in the off-season. Seems like your soon-to-be first Great Grandchild (congrats, by the way!) is due to be born during the peak season in Florida, which is October-ish to April-ish. Yes, flights and accommodations are pricier then (and none too cheap on off-season, either).
Definitely use the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport (aiport code SRQ). It's West-Central Florida's nicest, easiest airport to navigate -- and it's mere minutes from Bradenton's and Sarasots's commercial areas.
As for a nice hotel in Bradenton: Try the Holiday Inn at 6231 Lake Osprey Drive, Sarasota FL 34240. It's relatively new and clean!!! And it's about ten minutes from the airport.
For car rentals, try Hotwire.com.
Hope this helps, "Granny"!

Where is a good place to by a summer home in Florida....? Question: Near the ocean. It seems like some places have some great deals. In Bradenton it seems like they are giving houses away and Vero Beach has some nice deals. I want a nice area..and that is going to stay nice and possible make some nice gains. I dont want to buy a house for 200k an dhave it worth 100k in 3 years. Some places have some nice homes but the area is gettinfg pretty ghetto.
Answer:
Ft.Myers Beach(Estero Island) is the only place on earth I would love to have a place, and plan on it some day soon. It's a very beachy enviorment, laid back and kinda has a Key West feeling in a honky tonk kind of way...population consists of the very old and the young and all with great attitudes. Only clothing needed is bathing suit shorts and flip flops.. Only drawback is one way on/off the island is a bridge that gets very backed up during spring break..If your interested in Vero beach, we have 3 lots for sale in that area

Is it about time this came out? Some Jehovah's Witnesses want more than to leave Watchtowers ? Question: Towns where Alleged Jehovah's Witness Child molesters have been reported to silentlambs
Home
Listed by each state
If you would to add a new listing contact silentlambs at info@silentlambs.org
The list below is designed to alert you to a possible danger in your community. Over the course of the last four years silentlambs has been a repository of reports on alleged Jehovah's Witness child molesters. Victims have reported extensively on times, dates and places abuse occurred. We have wrestled with how to alert the public as well as members that may be in congregations where abusers have been reported.
We offer the following suggestions if you as a Jehovah's Witness are in a town/congregation where a report has been made.
Do not allow your children to be alone with anyone in the congregation.
Escort your children to the bathroom during meetings and make sure no else is with them when using facilities.
Never allow your children to be alone in the car with anyone while in field service.
Do not allow any member to study with your child alone.
Avoid camping trips in which children go as a group with one or two adults.
Avoid baby sitters that are adult males.
At a get together watch your children and keep them in sight at all times.
Ask elders directly if they know of any abusers in your congregation, use specific names and note their reaction. They will not tell you directly but indirectly you can often figure out who it is. If one elder is less cooperative talk to another till you find out enough information to know the facts.
Check the local sex offender list in your area, type in the name of every person in your congregation to see if any are listed.
Notice any male member of the congregation that does not have privileges such as microphone or other duties around the congregation, especially if for a long period of time. They can offer talks on the TMS or sermons Service Meeting but are not allowed to conduct meetings. (This is only in case of a confessed child molester)
Note any member of the congregation that has children with sever rebellion or emotional problems.
Do not allow your children to have sleepovers with anyone.
Note members that the elders avoid having around their children.
If you are a member of the public and your community is on the list take the following steps to protect your family.
If Jehovah's Witnesses call at your home never allow them in your home
If you do not wish Jehovah's Witnesses to call at your home purchase a no trespassing sign and place it near your door. JW's are instructing to only respect "no trespassing" signs any other variation will be ignored.
If you do not wish Jehovah's Witnesses to call you can also call the local number and ask to be placed on the "do not call" list. They will note your home and check about once a year to make sure you wish to remain on the list.
If you choose to study with Jehovah's Witnesses do so at a neutral location such as the local Kingdom Hall or in a public place.
Never allow your child to be alone with members or their children.
If you choose to attend meetings with Jehovah's Witnesses then we suggest you follow the guidelines above for members.
Remember that most members are not aware of who the molesters are in their congregation according to church policy. They do not know.
If two Jehovah's Witnesses call at your door one could be a child molester. According to church guidelines all confessed child molesters are required to have a partner when going door to door. If two Jehovah's Witnesses appear at your door you might wish to ask if one or both are child molesters for peace of mind. Of course keep in mind if the person is an accused child molester they are allowed to work alone in the door to door work.
We hope this information is helpful and assists with the ultimate goal of silentlambs, protecting children. Check back as the list is updated on a regular basis.

So where's everybody from? Geographically speaking. Is there anywhere else you'd love to live? Question: I'm originally from Tennessee. But due to my boyfriend's job, I've lived in Ohio,Florence South Carolina,Virginia Beach Virginia,ElDorado Arkansas,Dalton and Stockdale Georgia,Vicksburg Mississippi, Bradenton and Sanford Florida,El Paso and HoustonTexas, Metairie and Monroe Louisiana. I am now living in Denham Springs Louisiana outside of Baton Rouge. But I think I'd love to try living in Maine, Alaska (I have an uncle in the airforce there) or Ireland. SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE.
Answer:
Flagstaff and Sedona, Arizona were so beautiful! If I had one place to live other than Mississippi, that'd be it. But, the cost of living is very high out there, but I would settle for Phoenix. Arizona in general was very beautiful especially after driving through 900 miles of that hell-hole we call Texas.

Travel Locations In Florida? Question: I will be visiting Bradenton, Florida November 5th. I was wondering if there was any cheap things we could do while we are down there. Already we plan to go to: The Red Barn, The Beach, and Mixens. Remember it has to be cheap and around Bradenton, Florida.
Answer:
So little to do for free in that area....
Some of the less cheap things are the aquarium and the Ringling Museum. Both are a little costly, but a full days worth of cool stuff.
Cheaper things include:
Gamble Plantation - it's a state park, and old sugar plantation. The park is free and tours are $5.00
Myakka River State Park - good for hiking, biking, canoe or kayaking, photographer and picnicking. For $10.00 a person they have airboat and tram tours, which are always fun. It's $5.00 a vehicle to gain entrance to the park and rental of canoe, kayak other misc equipment is extra.
Madira Bickel Mound State Archeological Site - interesting if you like this kind of thing, and free
Ellenton Outlet Mall - it's a huge place with great discounts. This could be a cheap excursion or an expensive one - all depends on you :) Ellenton exit off I-75
Dollar Movies at Desoto Square Mall
303 US Highway 301 Blvd. W., Bradenton, FL, USA - (941) 744-2950
A great way to spend a lazy evening without breaking the bank.
