I am moving to Florida and need help as to whether I shoud live in: Ft Myers, Bonita Springs or Leehigh Acres? Question: I am moving to South Florida in April and need to know whether I should move to one of the three because that is what I have narrowed it down to. I need to know which is more cost efficient, safe, and nicer. Any information in these areas would be great!!!!!!!
Answer:
Fort Myers is starting to get really built up, I expect it to turn into a 'big city' within 5 years. Bonita Springs is nice, a little more pricey than Fort Myers. But it seems the further south you go, the more expensive it is. And personally Lehigh is kinda 'country'. You will literally see cows all over the place if you drive through, I almost moved there, but luckily got out of it. If you're over 35 and settled down, go for Bonita, but if you're still in a partying stage, Fort Myers is cheap enough and nice enough to have a little fun.

planting watermelon seeds in Florida...? Question: I am going to plant watermelon seeds in my yard.
Where should I put them... By the house, where they are shaded from morning sun?
Under some trees, where they are shaded from afternoon sun?
Or as out in the open as possible?
I live in Bonita Springs Florida Which is a zone 10 area
I am going to plant them this week
Answer:
Watermelon vines need to be in full sun to develop as much sugar as possible as the fruit matures. I've seen them growing out in the scorching heat in Texas, and they do just fine.
Enjoy!

Did you people really believe that these immigrants are only taking jobs nobody wants? Question: Large wall street developers based out of bonita springs florida are not allowing the fair bid process to take place at any construction site. Illegals with very minimal skills are brought in without interferance or impedance and do very unskilled labor on some of the most costly fragile real estate developments. Most home owners are shocked at the poor quality of the big investment they just made and If allowed ,Qualified construction professionals like my self would not have to lose thier business of twenty five proud years to developers who operate worse than Hoffa and dont worry they are coming to a theatre near you! What would you say if you were locked out of your job market because you are legal and qualified? Dont make the mistake of involving the immigrants they are even worse placed pawns than we are . And Ithink there is a side show we are watching as our economy goes down the tubes It smells of dirty politics in bed with wall street and look at the people behind the money!
Answer:
You are absolutely right, I have seen this myself. Americans at all levels of this industry suffer; the experienced construction professionals, the qualified young Americans who are learning their trades and the ultimate consumers who spend hundreds of thousands for junk. I first noticed this more than 10 years ago when I hired what was supposed to be a premium firm to paint the trim on a house. The supervisor spoke no English and had to show two of his three workers how to use a ladder and how to apply paint with a brush.
What people don't realize is that we're losing a very valuable class of skilled workers; intelligent people who know how to do things right, who take pride in their work, who permanently live in our communities and who have an investment in their reputation. And we're losing great opportunities for our kids. What happens to young guys who aren't skilled at academics or who just prefer healthy, physical work? The people who really build society are being screwed. I mean this.

Is Florida actually nice??? Question: is florida all that it's cracked up to be. are the beaches nice or are they dirty?? any details on the fort myers/bonita springs area would be helpful. thank you.
Answer:
Ft. Myers is beautiful. I go down there 2-3 times/year for golfing and to get away from the winter up north. The water is EXTREMELY salty in the gulf, so don't open your eyes or mouth! Plenty of nice restaurants and clubs. The beach isn't dirty. Don't waste your time or money on Sanibel Island. You pay $8 to get to it with causeway tolls and beach access. First time I've ever heard of paying to use a beach. Once you leave, it's no coming back unless you pay again. Stick to Ft. Myers Beach. Nice and clean, plenty of sights ;) Traffic can be a pain in the butt to get into the area, but it's worth it. If you are able to stay close and walk or bike, you'll be in good shape. If you are a golfer, bring plenty of shirts w/ collars. They don't like T Shirts or blue jean shorts.

Does anyone live in a guarded-gated community? Question: Need some feedback with regards to advantages and disadvantages in Florida (Southwest--between Sarasota and Naples, most specifically Bonita Springs).
I've heard good and bad, but I really need more feedback as I am looking for HOA info, upkeep, security and its reputation in GS's, ammenities, especially equestrian, beachfront.
Please, please, please, only personal and professional experiences need respond as all other answers will not be much help.
I have a friend who's lived in two in Florida and did not have a good experience, but that's just one person's feedback.
The more answers, the better.
Thank you!
Answer:
It sounds like you're looking for the difference between an open community, gated community, and guard-gated community.
1. A gated community is not much better than an open community. If someone wants to get in, they just wait for someone to open the gate, and they follow them in. Gated communities only keep the honest people out, and cost a great deal of money in repairs and maintenance, in replacement costs, in damages done by people who push through, etc.
2. A guard-gated community is different. The guards determine who enters. How well it works completely depends on your guards. If you have diligent guards that check and call on everyone who is not a resident, it can make a big difference. However, if you have a big line of people waiting because a guard cannot get ahold of a resident, and someone in the line gets impatient, guards will sometimes give in and let the person in without permission.
The other advantage of a guard-gated community is that the values of the homes usually are higher because guards are there 24/7. Just having guards around make you feel safer, and there are some criminals that would stop with the guards.
The big disadvantage is the cost. One cheap 24/7 guard costs about $130,000 a year - you are looking at four+ 40-hour shifts each week.
Remember, though, if someone really wants to get in somewhere, they will find a way. You can't prevent those. For the rest, it's a matter of opportunity. You need to have levels of security - at each level someone won't feel comfortable going further. For example, your first level might be lighting. At night, some criminals will only go to dark areas. Your second level might be cameras. Some criminals don't want themselves recorded. Your third level might be a card key system, or guards, or gates, or ....
