I've lived in Avon Park for twenty years, most of my life. And I can tell you unquestionably, this ordinance was a complete political sham. Twenty percent of our population is hispanic. This is nothing new. But throw up a bill with inflammatory language and no chance in hell of surviving judicial review, and suddenly the whole place is a mess.
It was meant to provoke people. It was meant to garner attention.
A real solution, like housing restrictions relative to people per square foot, wouldn't have been nearly as dramatic.
A true way to affect illegal hiring in business, such as standardizing employement applications and subjecting them to police review per a warrent, wouldn't have properly stroked Tom Macklin's political penis, nor lined his pockets.
And a city of less than 9000 is gonna tell ME I can't do business in Spanish? Me? An american citizen paying taxes ? That little tidbit alone makes me want to buy a billboard on HWY 27, just to put up the words "Se Habla Espanol."
It didn't pass, thank God. At a time when our country is pulling itself apart, things like this come along to further divide us. To make anyone with a god damn tan an enemy.
There has to be a better way...

I grew up in South Florida. There are plenty of trailer parks you can try, though most of them are for older people. My advice would be try North Florida. The Gainesville area isn't bad. I lived in Tallahassee for awhile and it is much less expensive.
Of course, this is only if you absolutely positively can't live at home anymore. I would strongly recommend staying at home at least until you graduate high school and get a job. I grew up with an abusive stepfather, but I stuck it out until I had a chance to make it on my own. Having a diploma and a job made it a whole lot easier. I know living with your parents can be awful, but living on the streets because you couldn't pay your rent is worse.

Is the highlands county area in Florida (Sebring, Lake placid, and avon park) considedered southern? I don't mean this geographically. I mean like is it culturally southern like comparable to Georgia, Alabama, North carolina, etc.? PLease help thanx!
When I say southern I mean it as an culture like Do people have a southern accent? is the popular music there country music,? is it typical southern cuisine or is it already like miami that's big and "not southern?" please help me thanx!!!
