- Loaded Pistol In Motor Vehicle Leads to Arrest of Three City Men
NORWALK By STEVE KOBAK Hour Staff Writer Three city men were arrested Monday afternoon after officers recovered a loaded pistol from their vehicle, police said. Terrance Baxter, 20, of 44 Bayview Ave., was charged with carrying a gun without a permit, conspiracy, criminal use of a firearm and possession of weapons in a motor vehicle Cilhema Lminggio, 19, of 104 Suncrest Road, and a 17-year-old, whose name is being withheld because of his status as a youthful offender, were both charged with carrying a gun without a permit, conspiracy and possession of weapons in a motor vehicle. Lminggio was additionally charged on a warrant with failure to appear in court.

NORWALK By CHASE WRIGHT Hour Staff Writer Big top tents, booths and transportable amusement rides are sprinkled throughout Veterans Memorial Park, where thousands of area residents are expected this weekend for the Norwalk Seaport Association's 2010 Oyster Festival. Organizers for the 33rd annual event are hoping fair weather and numerous family-friendly activities will draw upwards of 60,000 people to the festival. "The biggest thing for us is the beautiful weekend ahead," said Andrew S. Garfunkel, Seaport Association trustee and co-chairman of the 2010 Oyster Festival. "It's going to be a great weekend and we're so looking forward to it." Garfunkel said the festival is looking to bounce back from the lower-than-average attendance of the last two years. Hurricane Ike hit the Oyster Festival hard in 2008, and a rainy weekend hurt turnout again last year.

- Village Creek Founder Honored For Life's Work
NORWALK By CAROL KING Hour Correspondent Roger Willcox was caught off guard Monday morning. Although he is known to have his finger on the pulse of the Village Creek community, Willcox was awed yesterday when friends and neighbors unveiled a plaque honoring him for his 35 years of work with the Norwalk Land Trust board. "You surprised me," Willcox said, humbly. "I am very honored." Friends and neighbors gathered on the beach at Village Creek to view the plaque's unveiling and to pay tribute to Willcox, who is a founder of the 60-year-old Village Creek community as well as a longtime member of the Norwalk Land Trust. The plaque -- which reads "In honor of Roger Willcox, 35 years a director and officer of the Norwalk Land Trust, steward of Hoyt Island, protector of open space," -- honors the 90-year-old as he prepares to step down from some of his duties within the organization.
